Airing it out: Callers reported a man "only wearing underwear and carrying a pole" was walking on Market at 4th Street Wednesday. An officer who spotted him walking toward the police station said he was "wearing a shirt as shorts" and told him he needed to find a pair of pants or shots "to cover him entirely." The officer also told him he needed to "stop dancing and swinging the pole" because passersby were alarmed.

Summons: A man at the homeless shelter was charged with theft after he allegedly stole a bag containing three cell phones and a credit card Wednesday. Police said Jarod Boynes, 28, no fixed address, admitted taking the bag and showed them where he'd hid the cell phones and chargers but when they spoke with the owner, he said a credit card also was missing and wanted to pursue charges. Boynes insisted there was no credit card in the bag and police said he didn't have it in his possession when they took him into custody.

Control issues: A nurse in the UPMC Trinity ER department was struck by a patient Wednesday. Employees said the patient tried to hit the nurse in the face and missed, punching her in her shoulder instead.

She said he said: A woman in the 200 block of N. 3rd Street told police her ex had "made comments about possibly damaging vehicles" parked in a tow company lot Wednesday. The ex said he wasn't going to do anything of the sort.

Pony up: A caller complained of a man asking people in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue for money Wednesday. Police told him he can't panhandle and he left the area.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 832 Lincoln Ave., 811 Lincoln Ave., 836 Lincoln Ave., 1205 Park Street, 2623 Cherry Ave., 508 Lincoln Blvd., 112 Yale Place, all high grass; Also, 1300 Wellesley Ave., front yard and front porch "full of junk and personal items," plus a pickup parked on side of residence full of junk and scrap.

Cited: Dionee Jones, 50, 318 Hill Ave., Steubenville, assured clear distance ahead Wednesday after a rear-end collision on 7th at Market. Police said the other driver told them he was stopped at the flashing red light waiting for another driver to clear the intersection when Jones' vehicle struck his rear bumper. Others cited: Aaron Lovelace, 43, 1221 Oakgrove Ave., Steubenville, and Diez M. Johnson Jr., 18, Columbus, both speeding (school zone); Taylor Mosser, 342 Belvedere Dr., Bloomingdale, driving under suspension; Alexis Wicham, 33, 738 Oxford Blvd., Steubenville, speeding. A Cadillac parked in the 700 block of N. 6th Avenue and an Impala parked in the 700 block of N. 5th Street, both with expired plates, were ticketed and towed.
