Council changes budget hearings

STEUBENVILLE -- Due to scheduling conflicts, Steubenville City Council has shuffled its budget hearing lineup.

Council, sitting as the finance committee, will hear from Municipal Court, maintenance of repair, sanitation and electric on Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Then, on Oct. 20, proposed budgets for engineering, street projects and the water and sewer departments will be pitched beginning at 6 p.m.

On Oct. 27, council will hear from the police department as well as parks and recreation.

Council also sunshined emergency legislation adopting the Jefferson County 2026 hazard mitigation plan.

East Springfield final dinner on Oct. 8

EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Community Center will host its final monthly fundraiser dinner of the year on Oct. 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The menu will be a choice of soup -- chicken noodle, chili or vegetable -- and a choice of sandwich -- ham salad, sloppy Joes, hot dogs or coney dog -- along with a dessert and drink for $12.

Patrons can dine in or get carryout by calling (740) 543-3700.

The center is located on county Road 39 next to the East Springfield Fire Department.

School retirees meet

WEIRTON -- Steubenville City Schools Retirees met for lunch at Theo Yanni’s Restaurant.

Sympathy cards were signed. The Christmas charity for adults was started. Money will be collected until December. If you can’t make it to lunch, you can get your money to Linda Holub or Becky Bryan.

The next lunch will be at the Farm Restaurant and Pub in Adena on Oct. 8.
