Jefferson County Democratic Party fall picnic draws large turnout

STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Democratic Party’s annual fall picnic brought Democrats from throughout the county together for an afternoon of food, fellowship and conversation as the party prepares for the November election.
A large crowd attended Saturday’s event, which featured remarks from Democratic candidates and party leaders, including David Pepper, Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor of Ohio.
Jefferson County Democratic Party Chairman Eddie Abdalla welcomed those in attendance at the JeffCo Event Center and said the turnout demonstrated the enthusiasm and commitment within the local Democratic Party.
“It was great to see so many people come out and spend the afternoon together,” Abdalla said. “Events like this are about more than politics. They are about bringing people together, building relationships and reminding ourselves that we are part of a community that cares deeply about Jefferson County and the future of Ohio.”
Abdalla also pointed to the strength of the Democratic ticket heading into November, saying voters have an impressive group of candidates to choose from at every level of government.
“I’m extremely proud of the slate of candidates we have this year,” Abdalla said. “These are people with real experience, strong backgrounds and a genuine commitment to public service. We have candidates who understand the challenges facing working families, seniors, veterans and communities like ours, and who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get to work.”
The statewide Democratic ticket includes Dr. Amy Acton and David Pepper for governor and lieutenant governor, Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate, John Kulewicz for attorney general, Annette Blackwell for auditor, Allison Russo for secretary of state, Seth Walsh for treasurer and Ohio Supreme Court candidates Marilyn Zayas and Jennifer Brunner as well as Charrie Foglio, who is running for state representative.
“From the top of the ticket all the way down to our local candidates, we have an exceptionally qualified group of people,” Abdalla said. “They bring different experiences and different perspectives, but they all share a willingness to serve and a commitment to making government work for the people it represents.”
Following Pepper’s introduction by former state Sen. Lou Gentile, Pepper spoke to the gathering about the campaign and the issues facing Ohio, while also spending time talking with attendees and answering questions.
While Vivek Ramaswamy is flying over Jefferson County in his private jet, Dr. Acton and David Pepper have been on the ground listening to communities like ours, officials said. They understand how sky-high costs are hurting our working families and are ready to lower costs.
