Buckeye Local auditorium gets a new look

RAYLAND -- When students and visitors sit down for a concert, play or other special event at Buckeye Local High School this year, they'll be in new seats as part of an ongoing effort to refurbish the auditorium.
Superintendent Coy Sudvary said the previous 762 seats dated to the school's opening in 1990, and it was becoming difficult to find replacement parts for them.
Principal Luke Parsons said he's pleased with the new blue and gray seating, which closely conforms with the school's colors of blue and silver.
The seats were supplied by Martin Public Seating of Seville, Ohio, at a cost of about $239,973, paid from the school district's facility improvement fund.
Parsons noted that crews installed new railing along the steps leading to the stage this summer while the stage itself was refinished.
He said the work brings to a close, at least for now, a series of improvements to the auditorium that included replacing the lighting, sound system and carpet and repainting the walls.
While the high school auditorium has received a facelift, the stages at two other Buckeye Local schools have gotten a boost from other local sources.
The curtain for the stage at Buckeye Local West Elementary School has been repaired and cleaned through the support of an anonymous donor and the Adena Lions Club, which presents its annual spring talent show there.
The deteriorating rear curtain of the stage at Buckeye Local North Elementary also will be replaced with funds from a grant from the Charles M. and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation.
