Library offers personalized bookmarks to young readers
STEUBENVILLE -- Young readers at area schools can take their love of reading a step further with personalized bookmarks created through the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County’s Makerspace.
The library has delivered laser-engraved bookmarks for book vending machines at Steubenville City Schools, Toronto City Schools, Edison Local School District, Buckeye Local School District and Indian Creek Local School District.
Each bookmark features the school’s logo and name. Students who take a bookmark can schedule an appointment at the Schiappa Branch Library Makerspace to have their name engraved on the back.
“The bookmark encourages reading and allows students to make something of their own,” said Jenn Cesta, public relations coordinator.
The Makerspace includes a poster printer, 3-D printer, Cricut machine, button maker and digital conversion station.
Students must be at least 16 years old and have a parent’s signature to use the Makerspace. To schedule an appointment or tour, call (740) 264-6166 or visit steubenvillelibrary.org.
Lane closure planned on U.S. 22 in Weirton
WEIRTON -- The right lane of eastbound U.S. Route 22 in Weirton will be closed from milepost 3.4 to milepost 4.0 from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 21-25 for a light installation.
Motorists are advised to reduce speed in the construction area. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.
U.S. 30 ramps to close in West Point
WEST POINT -- Two ramps at the U.S. Route 30/State Route 11 interchange in West Point will close beginning Sept. 21 for a major pavement rehabilitation project.
The closures include the U.S. 30 eastbound ramps and the SR 11 southbound ramp to U.S. 30 westbound. The closure will include U.S. 30 from SR 45 to the SR 11 northbound on- and off-ramps and is expected to last 45 days.
The detour will use SR 11 to SR 154 west and return to U.S. 30.
The project is the first of five phases of work. Future closures will include the SR 11 northbound ramps, with additional sections of U.S. 30 scheduled to close in 2027. Overall completion is expected Oct. 31, 2027.

Monday Night Ladies League
HOOKSTOWN -- The women of the Monday Night Ladies League played the back nine at Ponderosa Golf Course.
The play of the day was select drive. Tammy Koutsky took first place, followed by Neysa McCart in second and Yuko Atwell in third after a scorecard playoff was needed to break a tie.
Denise Augustine had the long drive on No. 13, Brenda Hartley was closest to the pin on her second shot on No. 17 and Janet Backel had the low putts.
Town and Country Ladies Golf League
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The Town and Country Ladies Golf League held the first round of its annual club tournament Sept. 3 at Spring Hills Golf Course.
A Flight winners were Abbey Wilson, low gross, and Jennie Epifano, low net. B Flight winners were Signa Findlay, low gross, and Diane Vandine, low net. C Flight winners were Toni Dondzila, low gross, and Dora Elizaga, low net.
On No. 3, Vandine and Dondzila had the long drives in B and C flights, respectively. On No. 5, Kathy Antinone and Epifano tied for the long-drive honor. Debbie Hendricks won the B Flight range-finder tiebreaker and Elizaga won the C Flight honor.
Closest to the pin on No. 8 were Wilson in A Flight, Vandine in B Flight and Dondzila in C Flight. Findlay had low putts with 16.
The second round was held Sept. 10. Winners included Veronica Foldi, A Flight low gross; Dorothy Baier, A Flight low net; Vandine, B Flight low gross; Hendricks, B Flight low net; Shirley Guida, C Flight low gross; and Dondzila, C Flight low net.
On No. 1, long-drive winners were Foldi, A Flight; Marilyn Crew, B Flight; and Guida, C Flight. On No. 9, winners were Epifano, A Flight; Hendricks, B Flight; and Guida, C Flight.
Closest to the pin on No. 4 were Foldi in A Flight and Hendricks and Vandine, who tied in B Flight. Vandine had low putts with 16.
