Weir Class of 67 to meet
WEIRTON -- Members of the Weir High School Class of 1967 will hold their monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Theo Yianni’s, 322 American Way.
All classmates in the area are encouraged to attend. Plans for a 2027 reunion will be discussed.
Battle of Stones River roundtable topic
WHEELING -- Caroline Davis will be the guest speaker when the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable meets at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at 6:30 at the Ohio County Public Library’s auditorium.
Her lecture will focus on the Battle of Stones River (Dec. 31, 1862 – Jan. 2, 1863.) Gen. Braxton Bragg’s Army of Tennessee went up against William Rosecran’s Army of the Cumberland. On Jan. 1, President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation went into effect, and the fate of Middle Tennessee would be determined by the outcome of the battle.
Davis, a Morgantown resident, graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor of arts degree in history and an master of arts in historical presentation from Georgia State University. She has worked at Stones River National Battlefield as well as Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Vicksburg and George Rogers Clark National Parks.

Brooke health board to meet
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Board of Health will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.
The meeting will be held at the Brooke County Courthouse.
Franciscan criminal justice career fair set for Friday
STEUBENVILLE -- Franciscan University of Steubenville will host its sixth annual Criminal Justice Career Fair from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Pope St. Paul VI Event Center in Christ the Teacher Hall.
The free event will feature more than 30 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, law schools, military branches and private-sector organizations. It is open to Franciscan students, high school students, prospective students, job seekers and members of the regional community.
Exhibitors will include the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, IRS Criminal Investigation, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pennsylvania State Police, Ohio Division of Wildlife Law Enforcement Section and numerous county and municipal agencies.
Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force ROTC also will attend, along with several law schools and private security organizations.
An alumni corner will feature Franciscan graduates working or retired from criminal justice agencies. Students also will demonstrate self-defense techniques through the university’s Lambda Alpha Epsilon criminal justice honor society.
