Afternoon movie at the library
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Library will show the movie "Project Hail Mary," rated PG-13, at noon Friday, Sept. 11.
In the near future, astronaut Ryland Grace wakes from a coma afflicted with amnesia. He gradually remembers that he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years from Earth, to find a means of reversing a solar dimming event that could cause the extinction of humanity.
Those attending are invited to bring lunch. Popcorn and water will be provided.

WV author to discuss new book
WELLSBURG -- West Virginia author and state Sen. Ryan Weld will discuss his new book, "The Foundations of Wellsburg," at 5 p.m. today at the Brooke County Public Library’s River Room.
Weld will read excerpts from the book and discuss his writing journey. A question-and-answer session and book sale and signing will follow.

Grant funding available for Appalachian Ohio libraries
NELSONVILLE -- The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, in partnership with the Trust for Civic Life, is offering grants of up to $20,000 to public libraries and library systems in Appalachian Ohio’s 32 counties.
The grants will support civic experiments that bring community members together, address challenges and deepen civic engagement. A total of $250,000 is available.
Applications must be submitted online by Oct. 22. More information and applications are available at AppalachianOhio.org/libraries.

Solid Waste Authority Board to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority Board will hold its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Jefferson JBGT building, 228 Technology Way.
The meeting is open to the public. Meetings are subject to change, and residents are advised to contact the authority office to confirm whether the meeting has been canceled.
Prevention and Recovery Board committee to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Prevention and Recovery Board Finance Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the board office, 524 Madison Ave.
