No garbage pickups Monday in Steubenville

STEUBENVILLE -- Residents are reminded Steubenville’s sanitation department will be closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

That means no garbage collections Monday, so pickup will be one day later than normal for the remainder of the week.

Steubenville retirees to meet

STEUBENVILLE -- Steubenville City Schools retirees met for lunch at Capraro’s Restaurant and Lounge in Hopedale on Aug. 13.

The next lunch will be Sept. 10 at Theo Yanni’s in Weirton. In October, the group will travel to the Farm Restaurant and Pub in Adena. Anyone who needs to be put on the call list should contact Linda Holub at (740) 264-4203.

No reservations are needed, and retirees are encouraged to just show up on the second Thursday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the selected location.

Autumn Music Fest returns

STEUBENVILLE -- The second-annual Autumn Music Fest will be held Sept. 26 at the Agape Church Worship Center, 1310 Maryland Ave.

It will feature performances by the Covenant Band, Saved by Grace, Present Day Altar, Lillian Rachelle and CIY DJParty Big Ed, as well as the second Thief Motorcycle Ministries ride. Local vendors and food trucks will be on hand, and a drawing will be held.

Donations will be accepted, and all money collected will go to the Agape Church Outreach. Donors can use cash, a credit or debit card or cashapp.

Railroad crossings to close for maintenance

STEUBENVILLE -- Two railroad crossings will be closed to all traffic Sept. 8-11 while Norfolk Southern Railroad performs maintenance work.

The Ross Street crossing between N. Sixth and N. Seventh streets and the Slack Street crossing between N. Sixth Street and Linden Avenue will be closed during the work.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes. Officials thanked motorists for their patience and cooperation.

Road work to cause closures across area

JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Several road projects and closures are expected across the area in the coming weeks.

-- Ross and Slack streets: Both railroad crossings will be closed Sept. 8-11 for Norfolk Southern maintenance.

-- State Route 7: The southbound Fourth Street ramp in Toronto remains closed for mine subsidence work. Resurfacing also is underway between Brilliant and Steubenville. Completion is expected by Oct. 31.

-- State Route 213: The highway is closed south of County Road 56 for realignment work, with a detour using SR 7 and SR 152. Resurfacing also is underway between Steubenville and Knoxville.

-- State Route 164: Chip sealing is underway from Bergholz through Carroll County to Salineville.

-- Reese Street bridge: The bridge in Irondale is closed for replacement.

-- Veterans Memorial Bridge: Two eastbound lanes will close Wednesday for bridge maintenance. The closure will move from the Ohio side toward West Virginia throughout the day.

Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra travel time in construction areas.
