Wintersville Mayor Mike Petrella received help from his nieces, Evelyn Meyer, left, and Aliya Petrella, while serving as a judge in the food contest held as part of this month’s Wednesdays in Wintersville, which carried a back-to-school theme. Choosing the best among the six entries was difficult -- it took a second round of voting by the panel to select the peanut butter pie with peanut butter caramel sauce submitted by Katherine Williams as the winner. According to Donna Thomas, who coordinates the food contest at the monthly event, it was the first time the judges had ever been deadlocked. This month’s competition was for anything made with peanut butter or jelly or both. The theme for the Sept. 2 event, the last of the season, will be Oktoberfest, and the cooking contest will be for anything pumpkin.
