STEUBENVILLE -- This September, the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month with the theme “A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes!” Throughout the month, area residents are invited to discover all the ways a library card can connect you to books, music, art and fun experiences.
Coffee trail
Show your library card at these locally owned coffee shops during the month of September to get 10% off a cup of joe. Follow the coffee trail to discover each of these small business owner’s unique grind to the grounds:
• Clear Creek Coffee in Wintersville
• Leonardo’s Coffeehouse & Renaissance Coffee Roasting in downtown Steubenville
• The Coffee Shop in Richmond
• Tri B’s Coffee Shop in Toronto
• Mindful Mug in downtown Steubenville
Outdoor movie
Ohio Goes to the Movies celebrating America 250 wraps up at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Historic Fort Steuben Amphitheater. Look for the library’s bookmobile to step inside and check out books and Vandy’s Sugar Shack to purchase a drink and treat. Leonardo’s Coffeehouse is providing popcorn. Everyone who attends gets a treat bag, too. If it rains, the movie will move inside to the Main Library, same day and time. You can find out what movie will be shown on the library’s website.
Art and craft festival
Join us for the library’s first family-friendly Art Festival at Belleview Municipal Park from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 26. The event will showcase handmade and distinctive local art, crafts, gifts, food and more. There will be activities for all ages including an art walk, a painting station, chalk art, masterpiece painting, rock art and more.
From page to performance
Experience “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” by J.K. Rowling in two different dynamic ways. Join in for a book discussion at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Main Library. A representative from the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will join the discussion and share behind-the-scenes information about the film-with-orchestra process. Pick up a copy of the book or borrow it from Libby or Hoopla Digital. This book discussion is open to all ages. Register to attend.
Then, head to Wheeling Symphony Orchestra to hear it in concert on Oct. 30 -- just in time for Halloween. Show your PLSJ card and get a treat bag for free. Tickets for the performance of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: In Concert” go on sale Tuesday. Visit wheelingsymphony.com for details.

Upcoming events
The library will offer a variety of programs for adults and children throughout September at its branches.
At the Main Library, the Book Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9 to discuss "In Five Years" by Rebecca Serle. Books can be borrowed by calling 740-282-9782. Tot Time for children ages 2-4 and their parents or caregivers will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 8, 15 and 22 and at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 17 and 24. The program introduces children to the alphabet through songs and books.
The Adena Branch will hold Story Time for children ages 5-10 at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and Tot Time for children ages 2-4 at 11:30 a.m. that day. Registration is required for both programs. The Dillonvale Branch will offer Story Time at 5:30 p.m. and Tot Time at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 10, with registration required.
The Schiappa Branch will introduce 3 Stories at 3, featuring three stories read in 15 minutes at 3 p.m. Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29. The program is geared toward ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome. Tot Time will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 8, 9, 15, 22, 23, 29 and 30 for children ages 2-4. Babygarten, a lap-sit program for children from birth to age 2 featuring books, play and early literacy tips, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 10 and 24.
Adults at the Tiltonsville Branch will discuss "The Eulogist" by Terry Gamble at 10 a.m. Sept. 8. The Toronto Branch Book Club will discuss "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" by Maria Semple at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8. Toronto also will offer Tot Time at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 10 and 24 for children ages 2-4. Registration is required.
