STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is partnering with two-time Grammy Award-winning artist and New York Times bestselling children's book author Laufey to offer a limited-edition library card.

The special card will be released ahead of Library Card Sign-Up Month in September and in celebration of A Very Laufey Day on Aug. 23.

The card features a Laufey Book Club design along with the Laufey Book Club crest and Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County logo. It marks the first collaborative library card introduced by the local library system.

The PLSJ design is one of nearly 50 Laufey Book Club collaborative public library cards being launched around the world as part of A Very Laufey Day, a global fan activation intended to promote community, creativity and connection.

The Laufey Book Club connects readers around the world through monthly book selections and online meetings.

The partnership with the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is intended to encourage people to visit their local library, discover books and library services and connect with others in their communities.

Laufey also served as the American Library Association’s spokesperson for Library Card Sign-Up Month in 2025, an initiative that highlights the role libraries play in their communities.

Beginning Sept. 18, the limited-edition Laufey library card will be available free to new and existing PLSJ cardholders at all library locations.

Library cards are free to all Ohio residents. Adults 18 and older must show identification verifying an Ohio address. Patrons under 13 must be accompanied by an adult to register for a card.

Out-of-state cards are available for an annual fee of $10 per household.
