Wintersville High School reunion planned
WINTERSVILLE -- The annual Wintersville High School All-School Reunion will be held Aug. 15 at Alladin Land.
The event begins at noon and is open to all Wintersville High School graduates.
A covered-dish meal will be provided, along with drinks and table service. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted.
Brooke board schedules meeting
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Board of Education will meet in regular session at 5 p.m. Monday.
The meeting will be held at the board offices, 1201 Pleasant Ave.
Gospel Music Explosion set
WEIRTON -- The Gospel Music Explosion will be held from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 3124 Weir Ave.
The event will feature performances by the Weirton Ecumenical Choir, Bishop Michael Toliver, Deacon Kenneth Fair, the Weirton Covenant Praise Team, Melanye Wares, Linda Ross Brown and saxophonist Calvin Stemley.
The Rev. Marie Kelly of Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsburgh will serve as worship leader. The Rev. James E. Brown is pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church.

Solid Waste Authority to meet
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- The Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Belmont JBGT building, 67895 Pickering Road.
The meeting is open to the public.
YSU trustees schedule special meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State University Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Aug. 7 in the Board Meeting Room on the first floor of Tod Hall, 1 Tressel Way.
The meeting will follow a University Affairs Committee meeting and will include consideration of collective bargaining negotiations with employee bargaining units and other matters.

STEUBENVILLE -- New fiction titles available at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County include:

OSHP reminds drivers of school bus safety
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to use caution around school buses as students prepare to return to school.
Since 2021, Ohio has recorded 7,179 crashes involving school buses, including six fatal crashes.
Drivers must stop at least 10 feet from a school bus displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm. On roads with four or more lanes or divided highways, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop.
In 2025, the Patrol conducted 39,488 school bus inspections.
The public is encouraged to call #677 to report reckless or impaired drivers.
Brooke County Library announces upcoming programs
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library has announced several upcoming programs for the community.
The library will show “The Devil Wears Prada 2” at noon Aug. 14. The PG-13 film follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates changes in the publishing industry and faces off with her former assistant, Emily Charlton. Attendees may bring lunch, and popcorn and water will be provided. Reservations can be made by calling 304-737-1551 or visiting the library's website.
The library's book club will meet at 5 p.m. Aug. 27 to discuss “Wand Smoke: Broken” by MarQuese Liddle. The meeting will be held in person and virtually. The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in virtual participation can contact the library for meeting information.
The library also will host a family movie event featuring “Hoppers” at noon Aug. 13. The PG-rated film follows an animal lover who uses technology to communicate with animals through robotic bodies.
Popcorn and drinks will be provided for the family movie. Reservations can be made by calling the circulation desk at 304-737-1551.
Jefferson SWCD accepting candidate petitions
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting candidate petitions for its 2026 supervisor election.
Five Jefferson County residents serve on the district's Board of Supervisors, with each serving a three-year term.
Candidates must be Jefferson County residents, at least 18 years old and collect at least 10 signatures from county landowners or occupiers who are at least 18 years old.
Petitions are available at the Jefferson SWCD office, 500 Market St., Mezzanine Level, Suite 4, Steubenville.
Completed petitions must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 21.

Airport authority schedules meeting
WINTERSVILLE -- The Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 3 p.m. Aug. 10.
The meeting will be held in the Gary R. Folden Conference Room at the Ralph Freshwater Terminal Building at the Jefferson County Airpark, 600 Airpark Drive.
Library announces branch events
STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced upcoming branch activities.
At the Brilliant Branch, children can pick up a Story Time Grab-and-Go bag beginning Aug. 17 while supplies last. The featured book is “Commotion in the Ocean” by Giles Andreae.
The Bergholz Branch will host a Back-to-School event from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 17, offering free school supplies. Kait's Pretzel Korner and More also will be available for purchases.
The Dillonvale Branch Book Club will discuss “Meet Me at the Museum” by Anne Youngson at 10 a.m. Aug. 18. Call the branch to join.
The Schiappa Branch will host Open Art Night for all abilities from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Art supplies will be provided. The program is sponsored in part by the Jefferson County Board of Disabilities.
