Financial Aid Available for Certified Adult Ed Courses
BLOOMINGDALE -- Enrollment is underway for certified adult education programs at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, with financial assistance available for eligible students.
Fall Term A and B courses include Certified Nurse Assistant, phlebotomy, EKG Technician, HVAC 101 and EPA 608. A new Clinical Certified Medical Assistant class will be offered in the spring.
Adult Education Director Dr. Jim Hilton said the school has $50,000 in funding from the Charles M. and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation, with about $40,000 designated for workforce scholarships and the remainder for HVAC.
"We have opportunities for funding through the Pugliese Foundation, and the school received a total of $50,000," Hilton said. "About $40,000 has been set aside for workforce scholarships and the rest will go to the HVAC program."
The Healthcare Career Pathway Discount also allows eligible students to save up to $400 as they progress through phlebotomy, EKG Technician and Clinical Certified Medical Assistant training.

Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority Meeting
WINTERSVILLE -- The Board of Trustees of the Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority will meet in special session at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in the Gary R. Folden Conference Room in the Ralph Freshwater Terminal Building at the Jefferson County Airpark, 600 Airpark Drive, Wintersville.
The board will discuss an oil and gas lease offer and current-season sealing and paving projects.
New Books Available at Public Library
STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has added several nonfiction titles to its collection.
"Blood Ties" by Karen Aversa explores early 1900s Steubenville and the author's effort to solve a murder within her own family.
"Exhume" by Aaron Mahnke examines the folklore and early medical practices behind the New England Vampire Panic of the 1890s.
"What to Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking" by Caroline Chambers offers quick, complete meals organized by cooking time.
"Fed Up" by Daniel E. Lieberman explores the history of food and diets and examines popular eating and weight-loss plans through an evolutionary anthropology perspective.

-- Monday, Aug. 24: 11 to 11:45 a.m., Bloomingdale Community Building; noon to 1 p.m., Smithfield Presbyterian Church parking lot; 1:15 to 1:45 p.m., Dewey's Deli in New Alexandria.
