STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center will welcome one of Western Pennsylvania's premier youth theater groups Aug. 10 for a free live performance and interactive theater workshop open to students of all ages.
From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., the Little Globe Players, Pittsburgh's acclaimed youth Shakespeare touring company, will present a lively, fast-paced production of William Shakespeare's beloved comedy "Twelfth Night" at the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St.
The performance will be led by theater educators Kate Stapleton and Matt Walker, who will guide an interactive workshop immediately following the show. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with the actors, explore stage performance techniques and learn more about acting and Shakespeare through hands-on activities.
The event is free and is designed for students of all ages, whether they have previous theater experience or are attending a live stage performance for the first time.
"This is a unique opportunity for students to experience Shakespeare in a fun, engaging and interactive way," said Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of the Sycamore Youth Center. "Live theater has the power to spark creativity, build confidence and inspire a lifelong appreciation for literature and the arts. We're grateful to bring this outstanding group to Steubenville and invite families from throughout the Ohio Valley to join us."
To help organizers prepare for the workshop portion of the event, students planning to participate are encouraged to register in advance by visiting sycamorecenter.com.
The Sycamore Youth Center welcomes students from public, private and homeschool settings, and organizers hope the event will introduce many young people to the excitement of live theater while making Shakespeare accessible and enjoyable.
Admission is free, and families throughout the community are invited to attend.
