Steubenville alley resurfacing project to begin Sunday
STEUBENVILLE -- The City of Steubenville will begin the 2026 Downtown Alley Street Resurfacing Project Sunday, July 26, with overnight paving scheduled from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly throughout the week, weather permitting.
Work will include the Commercial Street Alley from North Street to South Street and the Court Street Alley from Washington Street to South Street. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
The streets will be posted as "No Parking" in advance, and vehicles left in the area will be towed at the owner's expense.
The project is being completed by NLS Paving Inc. of St. Clairsville and funded through city income tax revenue.
YSU Steubenville to host inaugural Penguin Kickoff
STEUBENVILLE -- Youngstown State University Steubenville will host its inaugural Penguin Kickoff from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 11 for accepted fall 2026 students, with rising high school seniors and community members invited from 4-7 p.m.
The event will allow students to complete enrollment steps, meet faculty and current students, receive financial aid assistance and learn about campus resources. A community fair featuring games, prizes and food trucks also will be held.
"Penguin Kickoff marks the moment our newest students officially become part of the Penguin family," said YSU Steubenville Executive Director Jennifer Board.

Summer Crisis Program offers cooling assistance
STEUBENVILLE -- The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Jefferson County Community Action Council are offering summer cooling assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program.
Through Sept. 30, eligible Ohio households can receive help paying electric bills, purchasing an air conditioner or fan or repairing central air conditioning units.
The program is available to low-income households, those facing disconnection, households with members age 60 or older or those with qualifying medical conditions.
A family of four must have an annual income at or below $57,750 to qualify. Last year, the program assisted more than 55,000 Ohio households.
