Sunset lane reduction set
STEUBENVILLE -- Sunset Boulevard from Steele to McDowell avenues will be reduced to one westbound lane for about three days beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, the city's engineering department announced.
The lane closure will occur near 1521 Sunset Boulevard as a contractor completes roadway restoration work related to storm sewer installation for the new WODA apartment development.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and be alert for traffic pattern changes in the construction area.
Board of elections to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jefferson County Board of Elections will hold its July meeting at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
The meeting will take place in the Jefferson County Tower, 500 Market St.
Council to decide oil bid
STEUBENVILLE -- City Council is scheduled to decide Tuesday whether to accept one of two bids for underground oil and gas rights involving about 19 city-owned properties.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
WVU Medicine-WMC Auxiliary sets sale
WEIRTON -- The Auxiliary at WVU Medicine-Weirton Medical Center will host a Roberts Medical uniform sale in the hospital atrium.
The sale will feature fashion brands, scrubs, accessories, shoes and other items. It will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
Veterans set annual picnic
SMITHFIELD -- The Jefferson County Veterans Association will host its annual picnic July 18 at Friendship Park.
The event will recognize America's 250th birthday, as well as veterans, active-duty military members, first responders and their families. The picnic will be held from 2-4 p.m. at shelters one, two and three.
The event will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, side dishes, desserts, water and soda. Attendees will receive a 250th birthday pin engraved with 1776-2026, the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty.
Organizers said the afternoon will provide an opportunity for fellowship and friendship. Tickets also will be available for a drawing for a flag box with a 250th memorabilia medallion and Christmas ornaments.
Transit authority to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steel Valley Regional Transit Authority will hold its regular board meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16.
The meeting will take place at the Robert J. Cutri Modal Center.
