Servia Rest Area Renovation Awarded $21M Contract

CHARLESTON -- A project to renovate the Servia rest area along Interstate 79 in Braxton County is among 20 construction projects awarded by the West Virginia Division of Highways on June 30, 2026.

Paramount Builders LLC was awarded a $21,003,611.97 contract for the project, which includes construction of a new building, water tank and utility lines.

The contracts were awarded from a bid letting held June 9, 2026.

Other projects included CTL Infrastructure Solutions LLC, which was the low bidder on a slip repair, base failure repair and slope correction project at four locations on Hospital Hill Road in Brooke County, with a bid of $1,453,961.43.

WVDOH evaluates bids based on factors including Engineer's Estimates, project need, funding availability and cost differences. Most projects are awarded within a week of bid letting, though the process may take longer.

Lengyel Named to Miami University President's List

OXFORD-- Raygan Lengyel of Rayland has been named to the Miami University President's List for the spring 2026 semester.

Students named to the list rank in the top 3 percent of undergraduate students within their division, recognizing academic excellence.

Miami University is a public university established in 1809, serving more than 22,600 undergraduate students and 2,200 graduate students across multiple campuses and academic programs.

Edison Local Board Cancels August Meeting, Reschedules Date

HAMMONDSVILLE -- The Edison Local Board of Education has canceled its Aug. 13, 2026 meeting.

The board's regular August meeting has been rescheduled for Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Edison High School.

Sunset Boulevard Lane Shift Scheduled for July 7

STEUBENVILLE -- A lane shift is planned for the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard on July 7 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., with work expected to continue for several days.

Sunset Boulevard between Steele Avenue and Wildon Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction near 1521 Sunset Blvd.

The change is required for installation of a storm sewer for a new WODA apartment development.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and watch for changing traffic patterns.

Wintersville Council Meeting Postponed Due to Building Issue

WINTERSVILLE -- Thursday's Village Council meeting was postponed due to air conditioning issues at the Village Building, Mayor Mike Petrella said.

The meeting has been rescheduled for next Thursday.
