Weirton Christian Center provides meals to children during the summer

WEIRTON – The Weirton Christian Center is serving as a sponsor for the federal Summer Food Service Program, providing free lunch and a snack to area youth under the age of 18.

Lunch will be served at the Weirton Christian Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday, through July 30, with snacks available for those enrolled in the Christian Center’s summer program from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Weirton Christian Center is located at 117 Ivy St. in Weirton.

The summer program is available from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, for youth in kindergarten readiness through middle school, also until July 30.

“A nutritious meal is important for children to learn, play and remain active during the summer months,” noted Christian Center Executive Director Kim Weaver. “Remember, ‘Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation,’ and our program at the Christian Center will help prevent summer learning loss, while school is not in session with a summer reading program and lots of learning activities.”

Those not enrolled in the summer program may still receive a free lunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., by calling ahead to reserve meals.

For more information about the programs, call the Weirton Christian Center at (304) 748-2353.
