Lose the loser: A woman whispered into her phone Sunday to 9-1-1 dispatchers that she was in danger while her male companion could be heard in the background yelling. Police found the woman in the hallway of her apartment building in a partial state of undress, trying to cover her chest with a flannel shirt she was holding. She said she’d been arguing with her boyfriend who had been drinking and claimed he’d “shoved her into the bathroom and took her clothes as well as her cell phone…(and) told her she wasn’t going to go anywhere or call the police or she would go to jail.” She said she was locked in the bathroom for about an hour but there hadn’t been any other violence and she just wanted him out of the residence. Police spotted a red mark on her neck but she didn’t remember how it happened but she “was in fear” should he not leave and said they’d had altercations in the past that left her with broke bones. The male told police “he did nothing wrong” and that what happened in the bathroom “doesn’t matter,” claiming she’d “broken some type of glass light by (hitting) him with it” and he’d already cleaned up the glass. He had no injuries, police said.
Charged: A woman told police she was trying to pick up her son Saturday when her ex “punched in her in the mouth region” before retreating inside his mother’s home. Police said her lip was swollen and bleeding and she wants to pursue charges. The man’s mother said he’d already left her home but let them search the property anyway. Police advised her to leave the residence, which she did, but she later reached out to report he’d returned to his mother’s residence and was texting his using mom’s cell so they returned to her home. He claimed he was defending himself, but admitted the scratch on his neck had happened the day before and police said he didn’t have any fresh injuries. Joseph Terrance Mitchell, 31, 492 S. 5th St., was booked into the county jail on a domestic violence charge.
Hands off: Police responded to a property in the 800 block of Market Street Friday after a 9-1-1 operator reported a hangup caller “with individuals yelling in the background” had pinged to that location and they’d had a similar call there the night before. Once there a female told them she called because her male companion “struck her all over after an argument.” She showed police a large bruise on her thing she said had happened during the argument and another on her stomach from the night before when he assaulted her. She advised police she wants to pursue charges but police said he’d already fled and they didn’t immediately locate him.
Hanging on: A woman told police she’d been arguing with her ex-boyfriend for hours, Saturday. She said he “was following her and would not leave her alone…(and) she did not want anything to do with him.” He told police he “was concerned for her safety.” They told him she doesn’t want him around and he advised him to leave her alone.
Freeloading: A resident in the 400 block of Woodland Avenue told police a woman he didn’t recognize had been wiggling the door handles and then plugged her phone into an outdoor outlet and left. He said he was waiting for her when she came back for the phone and claimed “she knew someone that lived a few streets over” and walked away. He did not want to pursue charges. Police advised him to keep the doors to the apartment building locked and took custody of her cell, portable charging box and two chargers, all of which are now stored at the police station.
Bad idea: A man asked police to go with him to a Hollywood Boulevard residence Friday so he could retrieve his possessions. Police said they’d responded to disturbance calls at the location in the past and made contact with his former companion, who said she put his things on the porch. He was unable to locate his check, wallet and cell phone in the laundry basket of clothes she’d left out but she told police she didn’t have them. The male asked if he could go back to the residence but police told him that wouldn’t be in his best interests.
Plate problem: A Union Avenue man who sold his 2009 Dodge pickup a couple months ago said Friday he received an E-Z Pass bill from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for tolls the new owner had incurred. He said the man was supposed to “remove and return the license plate” but didn’t and he’s been unable to make contact with him since. The resident said he’d already reported the violation to Pennsylvania authorities and the Ohio BMV.
Second thoughts: Police intercepted a male on a motorized scooter Friday who bystanders believed was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He told police he was waiting for a SVRTA bus and didn’t need help, then decided to leave the area on foot.
Booked: David P. Cope, 63, 564 Cadiz Rd., Lot 19, Wintersville, falsification, a bench warrant and two misdemeanor theft warrants. Not that easy: A Spring Avenue landlord said a man in the rental ‘needed to leave” Friday. Police told her he’d lived there several years and she would have to go through the courts to evict him.
Break it up: Someone reported two women fighting Friday in the lower lot at Heritage Place. Police said there was no one fighting when they checked the location but there were people outside in both lots so they stayed there until the crowd dispersed.
