June events set at Jefferson County libraries

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County library system announces June programming, new books, Bookmobile schedule

The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is offering a wide range of June programming across all branches, including children’s activities, adult education sessions, visiting animal programs from the Oglebay Zoo, and seasonal community events.

Programs are scheduled throughout the month at the Main Library and branch locations in Adena, Brilliant, Dillonvale, Schiappa, Tiltonsville and Toronto. For more information, contact the Main Library at 740-282-9782.

Visitors to the Main Library can expect Vandy’s Sugar Shack food truck June 17 from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m.

Adults will have the opportunity June 17 at 6 p.m. to attend a presentation by Dulais Rhys, Ph.D., on the history and members of the Rat Pack, featuring music from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. Registration is required.

Children’s programming includes a dinosaur lantern craft June 15 at 2 p.m. for ages 5-12, as well as an Oglebay Zoo visit June 17 at 11 a.m. featuring birds, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals.

At the Adena Branch, children can make a dinosaur puppet June 16 at 2 p.m. (registration required), along with an Oglebay Zoo visit June 15 at noon.

The Brilliant Branch will host Vandy’s Sugar Shack June 16 from noon to 2:30 p.m., a family movie June 18 at 5 p.m., and an Oglebay Zoo visit June 16 at 1 p.m. Teens and families can also pick up grab-and-go activities, including a Father’s Day bag beginning June 19 and an origami kit beginning June 15.

The Dillonvale Branch will feature a Paint ‘n Sip program June 20 at 1 p.m. (registration required), a book discussion of The Berry Pickers June 16 at 10 a.m., and a dinosaur puppet craft June 18 at 2 p.m. The Oglebay Zoo will visit June 15 at 2:30 p.m.

The Schiappa Branch will offer Play and Learn sessions for children birth to age 4 on June 17 and 30 at 11 a.m., along with family movies, zoo visits June 16 and 18, and grab-and-go teen activities. Vandy’s Sugar Shack will be on site June 18 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

At the Tiltonsville Branch, teens can pick up origami grab-and-go bags beginning June 15. Children will have an Oglebay Zoo visit June 17 at 2 p.m., and adults can attend a Fold3: Revolutionary Records program June 18 at 3:30 p.m.

The Toronto Branch will host a T-Rex tea party June 16 at 3 p.m. for ages 5-10, a dinosaur clay activity June 15 at 3 p.m. for teens, and an Oglebay Zoo visit June 18 at 11 a.m.

Also in library news:

— The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced its Bookmobile schedule for the week of June 8.

The Bookmobile will be off the road Monday, June 8.

On Tuesday, June 9, stops include Amsterdam at Grammy’s Diner from 10-10:45 a.m., Bergholz VFD from 11-11:45 a.m., and home delivery along Red Dog Road at 12:15 p.m.

On Wednesday, June 10, service includes home deliveries beginning at 8 a.m., followed by a stop at the Mingo Senior Center from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The Bookmobile will also appear at the Fort Steuben Concert at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, June 11, stops include Briarwood from 3-4 p.m. and Ridgewood Apartments in Wintersville from 4-5 p.m.

On Friday, June 12, the Bookmobile will visit the Brush Creek Community Building from 10-11 a.m., the Hammondsville Post Office from 11:15-11:45 a.m., Prime Time in Hammondsville from 12-1 p.m. and Riverside Apartments in Toronto from 2-3 p.m.

— New books have been added to the collection, featuring a mix of mystery, historical fiction and contemporary drama.

“The Final Target” by Nora Roberts follows a writer whose life takes a dark turn after a persistent fan begins showing up at her public events. What begins as admiration quickly escalates into something far more dangerous, forcing her to confront how well she truly knows the people who enter her life.

“Ode to the Bones” by Carolyn Harris centers on private investigator Sarah Booth Delaney, who returns to Mississippi’s Delta region seeking quiet and healing. Instead, she finds herself drawn into a haunting mystery involving a woman in white who appears near the historic Tallahatchie Bridge.

“The Boleyn Secret” by Alison Weir is set in the aftermath of Anne Boleyn’s execution, following young Katherine Carey as she grapples with her family’s downfall at the Tudor court. As she tries to survive politically and personally, she becomes entangled in the fragile world surrounding the young Princess Elizabeth.

“The Burning Side” by Sarah Damoff tells the story of a family forced to confront emotional and physical ruin after a devastating house fire. As they regroup in a childhood home, long-simmering tensions surface, revealing fractures in relationships already under strain.
