Jefferson County Roadwork Scheduled

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Highway Department has announced its work schedule for Monday through Thursday, including multiple paving and maintenance projects across county roads.

Spot paving is planned for County Road 51 (Hollow Rock Road), while pavement repairs will take place on County Road 8 (Dry Fork Road) and County Road 45 (Pleasant Hill Road). Berm repair work is scheduled for County Road 30 (Hills School Road), and crack sealing is planned for County Road 54 (State Park-Mooretown Road). Residents in these areas may experience brief delays while work is underway.

Jefferson County Students Earn Diplomas Through Online Academy

COLUMBUS — More than 250 seniors statewide recently graduated as members of Great River Connections Academy’s Class of 2026 during a commencement ceremony held June 6 at the Ohio Expo Center.

Among the graduates, Jefferson County students included Aiden McClure of Brilliant and Brian Singelton of Empire.

School leaders said the class reflects strong academic achievement, with students pursuing college, workforce entry, vocational training, military service and gap-year opportunities. Schools listed among planned college destinations include Indiana Wesleyan University, The Ohio State University, Purdue University, the University of Akron and Youngstown State University.

New Books Announced for Local Library Collection

STEUBENVILLE — The following titles have been added to the local library collection, according to information submitted to the newsroom.

New fiction includes “A River Red With Blood” by John Connolly, a thriller centered on a rural community shaken by a double disappearance, and “An Artful Dodge” by Karen Odden, a Victorian-era heist novel following a young woman in an all-female thieving ring in London. Also included is “Beach Thriller” by Jamie Day, which follows a woman returning to a Massachusetts beach town nearly two decades after a family tragedy.

New nonfiction includes “The Hero Next Door” by Martha Raddatz, which features profiles of members of the post-9/11 military generation and their families.

Bookmobile Announces Weeklong Schedule

STEUBENVILLE — The area bookmobile has announced its schedule for the week of June 29 through July 3.

The service will be off the road Monday. Tuesday stops include Amsterdam at Grammy’s Diner, Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department and home delivery on Red Dog Road. Wednesday includes home deliveries, the Mingo Senior Center and Wednesdays in Wintersville. Thursday stops include Our Place 50+ at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Briarwood, Ridgewood Apartments in Wintersville and the Historic Fort Steuben Summer Concert Series. Friday stops include the Brush Creek Community Building, Hammondsville Post Office and Prime Time in Hammondsville, along with Riverside Apartments in Toronto and First Fridays in Steubenville.

Summer Crisis Program Opens July 1 in Jefferson County

STEUBENVILLE — The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Jefferson County Community Action Council will once again offer assistance through the Summer Crisis Program beginning July 1.

The program runs through Sept. 30 and helps income-eligible Ohioans pay electric bills, purchase air conditioners or fans, or repair central air conditioning units. Eligibility is based on income and household circumstances, including age, medical conditions or utility disconnection risk.

Last year, more than 55,000 Ohio households received assistance totaling $12.4 million. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 740-996-9062.

Residents are encouraged to bring proof of income, energy bills and other required documentation to their appointment. More information is available at www.energyhelp.ohio.gov
