Medal ceremony planned
SMITHFIELD — The Jefferson County Veterans Association will host a formal ceremony revealing the Veterans Administration Medal of Honor headstone for Cpl. Fred B. McGee beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday.
It will take place at the Northern Cemetery adjacent to the Smithfield America Legion, 1075 Main St.
Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. county Commissioner Eric Timmons will speak, and McGee’s grandson, Riley will read his citation, JCVA adjutant, Barry Bardone, will discuss the journey to get McGee the medal.
Thomas Graham will sing the national anthem and “How Great Thou Art.”
WhiskerFest coming
WEIRTON — The Hancock County Humane Foundation presents WhiskerFest 2026 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Lauttamus Event Center.
The evening will include amazing food, drinks, great prizes, a DJ, Wheel of Catnip Fortune and more. Tickets are $55 at the door, or $50 in advance.
