Two held after drug busts
STEUBENVILLE — Two people were taken into custody Friday after homes in Unionport and Steubenville were searched, Jefferson County Drug Task Force Commander Chris Vinci said.
Booked into the county jail were:
• Randolph Mitchell III, 25, initially charged with possession of drugs with additional charges pending after a search of a residence at 2921 county Road 39, Unionport. Vinci said Mitchell, who is on probation, was staying at the home with his girlfriend.
• Calvin James Jr., 38, 1244 Ridge Ave., Steubenville, two F-3 counts of possession and one F-5 level possession charge, with weapons charges pending. Detectives reported finding 11 grams of crack cocaine, five grams of powder cocaine, 38 oxycodone tablets, seven morphine tablets, cash and five firearms — one of which contained a fully-automtic switch with extended ammunition magazines, Vinci said.
A Kendall Avenue location was searched, but no contraband was located.
Vinci said the task force was assisted by the county’s Special Response Team, sheriff’s deputies, Steubenville Police and the Belmont County Major Crimes Unit. The task force is comprised of Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies, Steubenville police and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s office. Belmont County Major Crimes Unit and Jefferson County are members of the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission.
