Work of local artist picked for Ohio exhibition

FINDLAY — A painting from a local artist will be a part of the 49th-annual Juried Ohio Watercolor Exhibition.

Gina Judy’s watermedia work, “Plein-Air Artists on Gilfillan Lawn,” a 26-inch-by-34-inch painting, has been accepted into the exhibit, which will run from Sept. 26 through Oct. 23 at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts in Findlay.

An opening reception presented by the Ohio Watercolor Society will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 26.

Sponsored by the nonprofit watercolor society, the competitive juried show annually attracts entries from across Ohio and areas along its borders. The exhibit includes 60 paintings that were chosen from the 207 entries submitted by 124 artists. The juror of selection was Ratindra Das of Wheaton, Ill.

An educator and mentor, his paintings have received national recognition and have been featured in numerous exhibitions. He has published two books, “Watercolor with an Eye for Design” and “Watercolor Beyond Obvious Reality — A Workshop in a Book.” An educator and a mentor, he regularly serves as a juror for national exhibitions, and has conducted workshops and demonstrations throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Singapore and China.

More than 300 Ohio artists are members of the Ohio Watercolor Society, which was established in 1978 to further the stature of aqueous painting as a major art medium and to assist in the education of Ohio artists and the public.

Judy recently has received several honors, including the Thomas Gene Zaugg Watercolor Award in the 71st Juried Annual May show at the Mansfield Art Center; the Ampersand Award at the 133rd-annual Juried Regional of the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati; and this year has been included in national shows in Louisiana, Alabama, New York, Pennsylvania and Colorado; and two online shows in Minnesota.

She also won best of show for the second time in the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society’s member show, Waterworks.
