Pickin’ and grinnin’ in Steubenville: Williamson Branch brings bluegrass to Sycamore Youth Center

STEUBENVILLE — One of Nashville’s premier family bluegrass bands is headed to Steubenville for a day of music, learning and family fun as the Sycamore Youth Center hosts a free concert and educational workshops featuring the nationally recognized group Williamson Branch on June 5.

The award-winning family band will perform a free concert at 5:30 p.m. at Leonardo’s Outdoor Stage in Steubenville. Earlier in the day, Williamson Branch members will lead two free workshops at the Sycamore Youth Center, including a clogging workshop from 1:15-2 p.m. and a fiddle workshop from 2-2:45 p.m.

Williamson Branch, based in Nashville, Tenn., has built a national following with its blend of bluegrass, country, gospel and family harmonies. The group features Kevin and Debbie Williamson alongside daughters Melody Williamson Keyes, Kadence Williamson Reynolds and Caroline Williamson. Since forming in 2014, the band has performed on hundreds of stages across North America and has become known for high-energy performances that combine musicianship, storytelling and family-centered entertainment.

The group’s accomplishments include multiple chart successes, with its hit song “Blue Moon Over Texas” spending seven weeks at No. 1 on the Roots Music Report Bluegrass Chart. Melody Williamson was recognized by the International Bluegrass Music Association as its 2020 Momentum Vocalist of the Year, while Kevin and Debbie Williamson were inducted into the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame.

Williamson Branch has appeared at major venues and events including Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium, Bill Gaither’s Fall Homecoming, Guy Penrod’s Gospel Music Showcase, the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival and IBMA events. Its recordings through Pinecastle Records have earned widespread recognition, and the family’s social media presence has grown to hundreds of thousands of followers, with videos generating tens of millions of views online.

Bluegrass publication Bluegrass Today has described Williamson Branch as a “must-see” band, while the group has become known nationally for its signature family harmonies and energetic stage performances.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our community,” said Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of the Sycamore Youth Center. “Williamson Branch is one of the most respected family bands in bluegrass music today. Not only will families have the chance to hear an outstanding free concert, but children and young people will also be able to learn directly from nationally recognized musicians through the fiddle and clogging workshops. We are excited to bring this level of talent to Steubenville and grateful to provide this opportunity free of charge to our community.”

Bauman said Sycamore continues to look for ways to expose local youth to excellence in the arts while creating family-friendly experiences that strengthen the Ohio Valley.

The concert and workshops are free and open to the public.
