Strawberry festival set in Irondale

IRONDALE — Irondale Christ Community Church will hold its strawberry festival from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Cost is by donation, and the menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans and desserts.

Post 735 recognizes Memorial Day

SMITHFIELD — Commander Tom McCain led the Memorial Day service at American Legion Gwyn Allen Post 735.

A flag-raising was held at the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” along with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Pat Logsdon sand “My Buddy” in honor of all who had lost a friend in combat.

Placings of the flag and wreath were held, followed by the playing of taps by the honor guard.

A meal followed the service.

The post was formed on Dec. 12, 1947, with 70 members.
