Hookstown Memorial Day Car Cruise set for fairgrounds

HOOKSTOWN, Pa. — The Hookstown Grange will hold its annual Memorial Day Car Cruise from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the Hookstown Fairgrounds.

Dash plaques will be given to the first 75 participants.

The event will feature a 50-50 drawing and giveaways every 30 minutes. Food and T-shirts will be available.

Those planning to attend are reminded that the Memorial Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. and the road will reopen at noon.

Sponsored by Southside Garage, the event will feature free parking and admission.

Hancock County Democrats to meet June 16

WEIRTON — The Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. June 16 at the Brooke-Hancock Family Resource Network, 1300 Potomac St.

The meeting will be held to fill vacant seats for positions that do not have elected members. All eligible members are encouraged to attend and participate in the process.

Unionport breakfast set for Memorial Day

UNIONPORT — A breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Wayne Township Community Center.

The menu will include pancakes and sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs and toast and beverages.

Cost is by donation and proceeds will benefit upkeep of the center.

International Senior Club meets at Undo’s

WEIRTON — The International Senior Club met May 12 at Undo’s. Patty Coppa led the prayer and blessing and Gabriel Arlia led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by members singing “God Bless America.” A buffet dinner and desserts were served.

Liz Beecroft introduced guests Bobie Koltz, guest of Bucky Sims; Karen Welsh, guest of Donna Filipowski; and Sherri Mamula, guest of Laura Mamula.

Rita Orler, secretary, read the minutes, which were approved as read. Norman Henson gave the treasurer’s report, which was approved and filed for audit. No business was reported, but members were reminded the annual picnic will be held in July.

Happy Birthday was sung to May members Joyce Dobbs, Leonard Ginier, Chuck Elliott, Cindy Richards and Laura Mamula. Liz Beecroft, Rena Konkle and Gene Viola provided jokes of the day.

Upcoming bus tours were announced for 2026, including June 13 to Sugarcreek; July 17 to Hartsville Marketplace and Flea Market; July 21 to Meadows Casino in Washington, Pa.; June 28 to “Legally Blonde” at Lincoln Park Performing Arts in Midland, Pa.; and Oct. 4-10 to Branson Show Extravaganza in Missouri.

The 50-50 was won by Jack Bilham. Undo’s gift certificates were won by Donna Filipowski and Lillian Zuros. Flower door prizes from Iannetti’s Garden Center were awarded to Barbara Guglielmo, Tony LaRosa, Gabriel Arlia, Linda Phabe, Debbie Bonuito, Nancy Ramsey, Norma Henson, Bucky Sims, Jack Bilham, Lillian Zuros, Elaine Briceland, Tom Beecroft and Marlene Dunn.

The next meeting will be June 9.

Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club holds May competition

WINTERSVILLE — The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club held its May competition Tuesday with the category “Rainbow.”

In the “Rainbows” category, John Newlin placed first, Jenny Riegler second and Sue Adey third.

In “Open,” Barb Momyer placed first, Jenny Riegler second and Sue Adey third.

In “Special Effects,” John Newlin placed first, Sharon Slokan second and Barb Momyer third.

The June category will be “Light Painting,” and a workshop will be held during the June 2 meeting.

The club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church. Summer meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. The first meeting of each month is a workshop, while the second meeting is a competition.

All are welcome to attend.

Solid Waste Authority schedules special meeting May 27

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority Board will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. May 27 to discuss and possibly approve agreements to purchase two properties located in Jefferson and Belmont counties.

The meeting will be held at the JB Green Team building, 228 Technology Way, Steubenville, and is open to the public.
