Hancock Democrats to meet
WEIRTON — The Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., with the and Hancock County Democratic Women meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Steel Cafe.

Railroaders to meet
CALCUTTA — All retired and active railroaders are invited to attend NARVRE’s monthly meeting at 11 a.m. March 19 at JP’s Pizzeria, 15946 state Route 170, Calcutta.

Water shutdown scheduled
There is a scheduled water shutdown Thursday at the Pottery Addition Vault in Island Creek Township. This interruption will allow for the main line master meter to be replaced. Water will be off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a 48-hour boil order for all customers in the affected area once service is restored. The following locations are in the shutdown area: TR 381 starting at the intersection w/ SR 213 and traveling East into Pottery Addition, TR 683, TR 380, TR 582, John Hood Rd, Jewett Rd, CR 44, Kingsdale Rd, Terminal Ave, Woodmont Ave, Barbra Ave and Joyce St.
Drilling to close Freedom Way lane
A portion of Brooke County Route 507 near 4139 Freedom Way in Weirton will have the center lane closed, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, for drilling. Traffic will be maintained by traffic signs. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect slight delays.
Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.
Library to screen drama
FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee Library will show the PG-13 rated film, “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t” at noon March 20. Attendees may bring a lunch. Free popcorn and bottled water will be provided.

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. March 26 to discuss Susan Holloway Scott’s “I, Eliza Hamilton.” Those interested in participating may do so in person or virtually. The book can be requested by visiting https://wvreads.overdrive.com.

Easter egg hunt set
WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Applefest Committee will hold a community Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. April 4 at the city’s Central Park at 17th and Charles streets.
The park will be divided for four age groups: 3 and under, 4-6, 7-9 and 10 and older. There also will be an area for special needs children, Easter music for children and a visit by the Easter Bunny.
Farm to participate in Maple Days
WELLSBURG — Family Roots Farm, located off Genteel Ridge Road and state Route 27, will be among farms and businesses participating in West Virginia Maple Days this weekend.
From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, visitors to the family-run farm can produce pure maple syrup from the collection of sap from many maple trees to its refining into syrup or sugar using the equipment found in its “sugar shack.”
Visitors will be served a scoop of ice cream with hot maple syrup.
Guests also may stop in between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday for a liter jug of maple syrup at a discounted price. Past customers are welcome to bring their empty jugs for refilling. Reservations are encouraged for Saturday visits by calling (304) 737-1889.
