Weirton budget workshop canceled

The City of Weirton Budget Workshop scheduled for Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m. has been canceled.

Water shutdown scheduled

There is a scheduled water shutdown Thursday at the Sugar Grove Vault in Saline Township. This interruption will allow for the main line master meter to be replaced. Water will be off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a 48-hour boil order for all customers in the affected area once service is restored. The following areas are in the shutdown area:

SR 152 from Rice Lane to SR 152 / CR 68, CR 68 to TR 442, TR 250, TR 304 West and TR 304 E.

Easter Bunny letters available

The Friends of Brooke County Public Libraries in Wellsburg and Follansbee, with help from the Easter Bunny, are once again sending personalized letters from the Easter Bunny to all boys and girls in the area.

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends may request to have a letter sent to anyone special in their lives. The cost is $2.50 per letter. The deadline to order them is 4 p.m. March 28. For information, visit www.brookecountylibs.org/el or call 304-737-1551 or 304-527-0860.

Evening story hour set at Brooke library

WELLSBURG — Kim Harless will lead an evening story hour at 5 p.m. March 11 at the Brooke County Public Library. The story will be “Get Busy Beaver” and there will be a craft and snacks. To register for the free program, call 304-737-1551 or visit https://brookecountylib.org/events.

Brooke Library to screen films

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-rated animated film, “Zootopia 2,” at 5 p.m. March 12 and the PG-13-rated musical drama, “Song Sung Blue,” at noon March 13.

Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch to the noon screening. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Indoor flea market at community center

EAST SPRINGFIELD — T.J. Anderson and Let’s Fight Together are sponsoring a spring fling indoor flea market fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 at the East Springfield Community Center.

The event will feature a full building of vendors, crafters and yard sale sellers who will be selling antiques, jewelry, homemade wreaths, homemade crafts, wood working items, Tupperware and yard sale items.

Hot food will be available by donation, and the menu will include hot food for donation only. The menu will include smoked pork sandwiches hot turkey sandwich hotdogs. Pasta salad, haluski and macaroni salad will be available for purchase.

The youth group from the Unionport Christian Church will be setting up its own baked sale.

There will be a $500 drawing, a 50-50 raffle and more. Proceeds will go to support local people battling kidney disease.

Mushroom workshop set

CADIZ — Area residents who are interested in growing their own food are invited to attend a Grow Local, Eat Local workshop focused on cultivating culinary mushrooms.

Ohio State University Extension will host the program at 5 p.m. March 24 at the Harrison County Fairgrounds Commercial Building in Cadiz.

During the workshop, participants will learn the basics of growing culinary mushrooms, explore species well suited for home production and discover techniques to maximize yields. Hands-on activities include inoculating a shiitake mushroom log and an oyster mushroom jar to take home and observe as they fruit. A live demonstration on inoculating a bucket with lion’s mane mushrooms will be featured.

The cost of the workshop is $20 per person, with payment due at registration to reserve a spot. Space is limited. To register, contact Erika Lyon at lyon.194@osu.edu or call 740-461-6136. Cash, check and credit card payments are accepted.
