Town and Country 4-H Club holds first meeting of year
SMITHFIELD — The Town and Country 4-H Club met Jan. 4 at Friend’s Church in Smithfield. Johanna George was in charge of the event.
Advisers Brooke Stingle, Alyssa Stingle and Teresa George were on hand to discuss with members projects that need worked on and those which have already been accomplished.
Upcoming events include a 4-H Night at the Nailers game on Feb. 13 and a winter update on Feb. 28.
It was announced the club will clean up at the Jefferson County Vocational School following the winter update as part of the club’s community service.
Advisers reminded the group that winter update animal clinics are mandatory if students want to apply for Most Outstanding Exhibitor.
The club discussed Iron Chef, scheduled for March 21.
Members were asked if they are interested in participating, with those who acknowledged their interest told teams will be formed during the February meeting, set for 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at the church. The secret ingredient for the Iron Chef contest will be jelly or jam.
Advisers reviewed poultry hatch dates, with plans made for group poultry orders.
Among the activities conducted was the election of officers.
Voting resulted elected Johanna George as president; Kole Wilson, vice president; Regan Wilson, secretary; Luka Petric, treasurer; Luke Wilson and Riley Wilson, health and safety; Kane Fabry, recreation; and Mihaela Petric, news reporter.
The reading of the treasurer’s report was conducted.
Hannah Langsdorf made a motion to donate $200 to the Tuckers in Smithfield, who lost three members of the family in a house fire. Luke Wilson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Mihaela Petric made a motion to donate $100 to Friend’s Church for allowing the club to use the facility for its meetings. Luke Wilson seconded the motion, which unanimously passed.
Members were asked to begin thinking about fundraising ideas, as one will be selected during the next meeting.
Members were asked to consider taking on responsibility for window decorating in March and the fair booth and fair parade in August.
