Senior club pauses at loss of two members

WEIRTON — Members of the International Senior Club met Feb. 10 at Undo’s restaurant in Weirton, with Patty Coppa leading those in attendance in prayer, followed by a blessing prior to a buffet meal and desserts.

Coppa asked for a moment of silence for two of the club’s members who have died, including Pauline Tortis and Terry Mamula.

Larry Purks then led in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, after which “God Bless America” was sung.

Liz Beecroft introduced guests Douglas and Shirley Kiraly.

Secretary Rita Orler read the minutes from the December meeting and Treasurer Norma Henson gave the treasurer’s report, which was filed for audit.

Jack Giacomal, a local entertainer, performed for the club by singing a variety of music favorites.

President Regina Truax displayed a plaque she received from the Tri-State Marines as a show of appreciation for the club’s donation of toys for local children during the Christmas season.

Truax introduced those serving as telephone callers, including Liz Beecroft, Patty Beltrame, Barbara Purks, Orler and Nancy Ramsey.

Happy Birthday was sung to those celebrating a birthday in January, including Gabriel Arlia, Carla Steven and Sylia Wendt; and those celebrating a birthday in February, including Tom Beecroft, Leonard Ginier, Rosa Pulice, Ida Provenzano, Orler, Marlene Runkel, Diana Starr, Patsy Dailey, Shelia Golonka, George Polemen, Patty Rossi and Barbara Snyder.

Liz Beecroft read the joke of the day, after which Truax, along with Rena Konkle, shared their own jokes with members.

Barbara Purks announced sympathy cards were sent to the family of Tortis and Mamula, along with a get-well card having been sent to Mike Runkel.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Ruth Masters. Undo’s gift certificates were won by Coppa and Douglas Kiraly.

Door prizes of valentine candy were won by Debbie Bonuito, Bucky Sims, Faith Melto, Barbara Guglielmo, Coppa and Kiraly.

A St. Patrick’s Day door wreath that was made by Truax was won by Richard Mergan.

The next meeting of the International Senior Club will be March 10 at Undo’s.
