Philoptochos gives to cancer patients
In conjunction with World Cancer Day, which was recognized on Feb. 4, the Weirton All Saints Ladies Philoptochos Society delivered 15 cancer care bags to the WVU Weirton Medical Center’s oncology department. Included in each bag was a Kroger gift card for patients, along with skin care products and healthy snacks. These bags were intended to help brighten the spirits of those who are battling cancer and to wish them a speedy and healthy recovery, members stated. The Philoptochos Society does year-round fundraising to support many charitable organizations and causes within the community. The group’s holiday bake sales are among their major fundraisers. The ladies expressed their thanks to the entire community for their continuing support of the society. Those who assisted in the receiving of the care bags were, from left, Philoptochos Society members Connie Mastromichalis and Pearl Tranto; Tina Rigby, WMC nurse manager; Billie Roe, registered nurse and nurse navigator; Georgia Anetakis, Philoptochos member; and Allyson Eckelberry, WMC medical assistant.
