History Alliance to meet in Cadiz
CADIZ — The Ohio Local History Alliance, Region 5, will meet at the Puskarich Public Library, located at 200 E. Market St. in Cadiz on March 21. The meeting will be held on the library’s lower level in the Harrison County History of Coal Museum. Those planning to attend must register by March 13.
Region 5 includes the counties of Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne. The Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park will host the event. Registration will be held at 9 a.m.; with the welcome to begin at 9:30 a.m. Concurrent sessions will begin at 9:45 a.m., featuring the following: Identifying Archival Materials, Mandy Altimus Stahl of the Massillon Museum; and Growing Heritage: How Small Attractions Win Grants and Visitors, Diane Lautenschleger of the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau. At 11 a.m., a tour will be given of the Harrison County History of Coal Museum. Sharing time will take place at 11:30 a.m., followed by a break for lunch at 12:15 p.m. When the meeting reconvenes, Alliance Region 5 will hold a business meeting and the Ohio History Connection’s local history office will give a report. Concurrent sessions taking place at 1:30 p.m. will include the Digital Shoebox Project and Digitization Considerations with Susan Guthrie, Puskarich Public Library; and Introduction to Canva: Free Online Design Tool, Karli Ray of the Puskarich Public Library and Taylur Cunningham of Dennison Railroad Depot Museum Systems. At 2:45 p.m. a tour will be given for guests to travel to and tour the Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park. The meeting will conclude no later than 4 p.m. following the end of the tour.
The alliance is a network of local historical societies, history museums, archives, libraries, genealogical societies and historic preservation groups throughout Ohio involved in collecting, preserving and interpreting Ohio’s history, having 10 regions within Ohio.
