Roundtable welcomes Lincoln author

WHEELING — The Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable will host a panel discussion on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln,” written by author, biographer, historian and Pulitzer Prize winner Doris Kearns Goodwin.

The biographical work follows Lincoln’s youth on America’s colonial frontier through the last days of his presidency. Goodwin has authored books on Theodore Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson as well, and has contributed to a number of PBS documentaries and lectures. A segment from her book served as the source for Steven Spielberg’s movie “Lincoln,” officials stated.

Throughout “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincolm,” Goodwin uncovers how valuable a role Lincoln’s ideology played out to meet the challenge of “the most tumultuous time in American History.” Lincoln’s standards of honesty and open mindness in relation to the administration, political allies and opponents, as well as military and naval strategies, became the foundation for his leadership and success, roundtable officials noted.

The event is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Ohio County Public Library auditorium.

The event is open to the public. For information or questions, contact Roundtable member Roger Micker at (304) 312-7559.
