Soup and sandwich sale set

WEIRTON — The Weirton American Legion Auxiliary will hold a soup and sandwich sale from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the post, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton.

Soups to be sold will include potato soup, pasta e fagioli, wedding soup, stuffed pepper soup, chili and ham and bean soup with cornbread.

Sandwiches will include barbecued ham sandwiches, egg salad, ham salad and meatball.

Desserts will be available for sale as well.

The event is open to the public.

Quarts of soup will be sold for $9 each.

Kiwanis announces speakers

STEUBENVILLE — The Kiwanis Club of Steubenville has announced its guest speakers for the month of February.

Guest speakers include: Steubenville Mayor Ralph Petrella, today; Wintersville Mayor Mike Petrella, Feb. 10; Weirton Mayor Dean Harris, Feb. 17 and Mingo Junction Mayor Judy Ruckman, Feb. 24.

Church to offer ‘Souper’ Bowl menu

WEIRTON — St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located on Three Springs Drive in Weirton, will be offering a “Souper” Bowl menu for those wanting to purchase homemade foods for the America’s largest football game of the year.

According to church officials, The “Souper” Bowl Takeout Blitz will sell items from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Dine-in will not be available and patrons must carry out all orders.

The “Starting Lineup” will include made-from-scratch soups and chili, including: Hearty Championship Chili, vegetable beef soup, chicken noodle soup, ham and bean soup and pepperoni rolls.

Customers can score savings on the following items: Pepperoni rolls, three-inch rolls, $3 each or six for $14; six-inch rolls, $4 each or six for $20; stadium dogs, plain, $2; loaded with chili, $4; the Rookie Bowl, 12-ounce single serving with cornbread, $6; the Pro Quart, 32 ounces and two cornbread, $8; the Coach’s Pick, two quarts, four cornbread and two pepperoni rolls, $20; and the Family Blitz, two quarts, four cornbread and two kids’ meals, $20.

The Little Kicker special features a hot dog kickoff box complete with two hot dogs, chips and a cookie for $4.

Business After Hours set

WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will hold this month’s Business After Hours event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at Valley Wine Cellar, located at 825 Main St. in Wintersville.

The cost will be $20 per person and include a ticket for appetizers, a drink, a speed networking game, an event contact list and endless relationships.

Those attending are encouraged to bring business cards to share during the networking activity in which local professionals will rotate through quick introductions, maximizing connections in minimal time.

Ag Morning Meetup planned

CADIZ — Join officials from the Harrison Soil and Water Conservation District, the Harrison County Farm Bureau and the Ohio State University Extension office for the next Ag Morning Meetup, scheduled to take place at 8 a.m. on Feb. 11 at Christopher’s Farm Goods and Provisions, located in Cadiz.

February’s topic will be farm insurance. Adam Perzanowski from Milestone Insurance will be on hand to answer insurance questions.

During these informal gatherings, participants will have a chance to enjoy a cup of coffee, chat with those in attendance, ask questions and access resources.

Center offers craft activity

FOLLANSBEE — Senior citizens seeking a reminder of warmer days ahead are invited to create a spring-themed wreath at 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Brooke County Senior Center.

There is a $20 cost for materials used in the craft.

Super Bowl party set for seniors

FOLLANSBEE — Senior citizens can do a little Super Bowl celebrating in advance and help those in need by attending a pre-game party from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at the Brooke County Senior Center.

Attendees are asked to bring a can of soup for the center’s food pantry for area seniors who are in need.

It is encouraged to wear the colors of your favorite team during the party.

Author to visit museum

WEIRTON — The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center will host Valerie Van Orman, author of “Helen of Holliday’s Cove,” at 1 p.m. March 7. The novel is set in the early 1900s and about a young woman living in the early American settlement that later became part of Weirton.

Orman will answer questions about her book and will be available to sign copies. Copies will be available for purchase at the museum.

There are many displays inside the museum, including rooms dedicated to Holliday’s Cove, Weirton Medical Center and its forerunner, Weirton General Hospital; and an area covering films shot in the city, including “Super 8,” in 2010.
