Spotlight on Skills competition at JVS
BLOOMINGDALE — Students attending the Jefferson County Vocational School excelled during the annual Spotlight on Skills competition, held Jan. 14 at the school. Awards were given in a variety of career-based categories. First-place finishers, as well as a few second-place awardees will move forward in the competition, according to administrators, who noted regional and state contests are upcoming. Should students progress in these contests and earn a first-place win, they will then advance to the national Spotlight on Skills event.
JVS top finishers included: Caiden Canestraro, Job Interview, first; Marco Socha, second; and Toby Hague, third. In the Job Demonstration category, Jolee Lombardo received first place; Kendall Adams, second; and Ava Nett, third.
The first-place finisher in Prepared Speech was Paige Casto. In Extemporaneous Speech, Audrey Nutter finished first.
In the T-shirt Design contest, Lillian Carl earned first and Ethan Mossor, second. Brookelina Grigsby received first place in Pin Design; and in Related Tech Math, Robert Koehnlein earned first place, Curtis Smith earned second place and Kalijiah Petteway, third.
Students competing in the auto mechanics programs earned the following top-place finishes: Auto Collision Automotive Refinishing Technology, Libby Berthot, first; Maleek Hollins, second; and Katie Rivers, third; Auto Collision Repair Technology, Kylie Chevalier, first; Joey Cionni, second; and Hunter Sall, third; Auto Service Technology, Ethan Marshall, first; Rafael Lash, second; and E.J. Fiorino, third; and Auto Service Maintenance and Light Repair, Kenny Bloom, first; Caleb Vincenzo, second; and Bri Hudson, third.
In the contest for Animal Science Grooming Skills, Olivia Hollenbeck took first place; Bralee Thomas, second; and Zoey Wright, third. In the Animal Science Vet Science Skills competition, junior winners were Ava Freeman and Livia Board, first place; Zoey Ralston and Hailey Smith, second; and Mia Nolan and Carminea Montgomery, third. The top senior finishers in the contest were Aaliyah Duke and Karly Koran, first; Mary Sammut and Breanna Ferguson, second; and Quinn Filby and Aireonnia Myers, third.
Brady Martin received first place in the carpentry building competition, followed by Tucker Winski, second place and David Edwards, third.
Top finishers in the Criminal Justice First Aid/CPR contest were Emalynn Burrows, first; Darrell Donbar, second; and Jade Avinger, third. Delany O’Brien received first place in criminal justice; Rylee Bayne, second; and Nate Green, third.
In the category of Criminal Justice Crime Scene Investigation, top-finishers were Abigail Fiorino, first; Sky Brun, second; and Starr Grennell, third.
Julia Richards earned first in Computer Networking Information Technology Services. Blake Bee received second place and Talon Smith, third. In Computer Networking Technical Computer Applications, Ben Marshall and Dylan Phelps placed first; Chandler Griffith, second; and Hunter Heilman, third.
Cosmetology top-finishers were Caydence DeGarmo, first; Hannah Boley, second; and Hayden Brown, third.
In the Culinary Arts Junior Skills competition, Riley Guskea earned first place; Nick Abshire, second; and Sean Dutton, third. The senior skills team earning first place consisted of members Olivia Johnson, Khloe Sears and Zuriana Forde.
Those in the Early Childhood Education program received the following top finishes: Language and Literacy, Alyssa Bonecutter, first; Shaylee Faulkner, second; and Ava Carey, third; Curriculum Unit Development, Madison West, first; Lyla Navarro, second; and Madison Hehle, third; Early Childhood Education, Adelynn DeGarmo, first; Observation and Assessment, Hayden Shurak, first; Alana Davis, second; and Brilee Tirpak, third; and Lesson Presentation, Bella Price, first; Donta Jones, second; and Emily Crabtree, third.
Noah Forrester finished first in the Electrical Trades Industrial Motor Control competition. Trevor Reese earned second and Aiden Coleman, third.
In the Electrical Trades Construction Electrical competition, those earning a win included Konner Leishman, first; Kale Beebe, second; and Cameron Rusnak, third.
Hayden Russell achieved first place in the Heavy Equipment Operations contest; Kyle Ensell, second; and Kayden Russell, third.
Students enrolled in Health Technologies competed in the following competitions: Personal Care, Honorae Dowdell, first place; and Shawn Jordan, second; First Aid/CPR, Kimber Howard and Riley Heldreth, first place; Nurse Assisting, Olivia Brousseau, first; Abby Kocher, second; and Becca Burch and Makayla Pitman, third; Home Health Aide, Jalissa Purr, first, and Aaliyah Bey, second; Physical Therapy, Madison Higginbotham, first; Rylie Viers, second; and Olivia Speaker, third; Medical Terminology, Meleia Ellis, first place; Human Growth and Development, Levi Lambert, first; Clinical Specialty, Cheznie Roth, first; Carmine DiEugenio, second; and Brianna Householder, third; Phlebotomy, Catelyn Schiffman, first; Kimber Rogers, second; and Chelsea Channels, third; and Surgical Technologist, Dana Haynes, first; Emma Lamp, second; and Gage Hennis, third.
The Multimedia and Design User Experience competition included the following design team winners: Chuck Carter, Lily Pool, Nick Sparks, Fran Dennis, Alivia Marcum and K.J. Sczruba, first place; Destiny Crimm, Alex Fundersol and Katelynn Short, second place; and Kayden Hanle, Brooke Patterson, Kaelan McGuire, Danica Frisinger, Katie Wells and Landon Petras, third place.
In the Power Mechanics competition, top-finishers in the juniors category were Jaxon Wiley, first; Corey Frey, second; and Drake Givens, third. Top finishers in the seniors category were Austin Fetty, first; Merek Speece, second; and Carter Stringer, third.
Top finishers in the Transition to Work Job Skill competition consisted of demo team members Hannah Hendrix, Alaina Warren, Tim Miller and Katie Anderson, first place; Addyson Myers, Kylie Aubrey-Biggie and Emma Castillo, second place; and Audrey Higgins, Lilli Whitman and Ethan Sherwood, third place.
Juniors who placed in the Transition to Work Job Skills competition were: Myers, first; Castillo, second; and Higgins, third.
Senior winners were: Warren, first; Anderson, second; and Hendrix, third.
In the Welding Fabrication contest, team members earning a top finish included, Hayden Aggers, Elijah Bright and Eli Kuczykowski, first place, and Danny Heaton, Zack McClurg and Layne Highley, second place.
Landyn Babel received first place in the welding competition. Charles Layman earned second place and Kenzie Hanlin, third.
