Marine Corps provides another successful toy drive

WHEELING — The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program, which is the Marine Corps’ premier community action program, provided 4,140 toys to more than 700 children throughout Ohio, Brooke and Hancock counties this past Christmas season.

According to officials, those in the reserves could not have performed this act of kindness without the held and generosity of local sponsors, as well as the tireless efforts of their coordinator and its team of hard-working volunteers.

“While our core mission is to bring joy and hope to children at Christmastime, children face challenges year-round, which is why we remain a steadfast year-round force for good,” organizers stated.

Those with Northern West Virginia Toys for Tots delivered approximately 500 toys to children during the flooding which hit areas of Ohio County last year.

Through its literacy program, foster care program and disaster response and recovery program, the Marine Corps Reserve is dedicated to providing ongoing support to children who are in need — paving the way for a brighter future every day.

Toys for Tots is a 78-year national charitable program run by the Marine Corps Reserve. It provides joy, comfort and hope to economically-disadvantaged children across the nation through the gift of a new toy or book at Christmas.

“The impact of these toys and books offers economically-disadvantaged children recognition, confidence and a positive memory for a lifetime,” officials added. “It is such experiences that help children become responsible citizens and caring members of their community.”

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a nonprofit organization authorized by the Marine Corps and the Department of Defense to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
