Kiwanis Club welomes new year

STEUBENVILLE — Service is not just a word for the members of the Kiwanis Club of Steubenville.

It is their privilege, their honor to be able to help those throughout their community.

As we turn the page into a new year, the club has wasted no time in getting to the heart of local matters in the coming months.

From the future of local education to honoring some very special kings and queens, Kiwanians are ready to begin the year 2026.

According to Treasurer Tom Timmons, the club is proud to announce its role as one of the sponsors in the upcoming Night to Shine event.

Sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, and hosted by Crossroads North River Church, this prom-night experience is centered on God’s love for people who have special needs. The evening is a reminder that everyone deserves a night where they are the star of the show, and local Kiwanians say they are honored to help make that magic happen. The event is scheduled to take place on Feb. 13 at Toronto High School.

Timmons noted the club is planning to hear from some special guest speakers during its upcoming Tuesday luncheon meetings.

Among the guests will be Michael Vok from the Laurels, who will address members Tuesday. Vok will discuss the vital landscape of nursing care, Timmons said. With an aging population, Vok’s insights into senior services are more relevant than ever for families having to navigate the complexities of elder care.

The club will welcome Shannon Tirone from Youngstown State University on Jan. 20.

Tirone will provide much-anticipated updates regarding the plans at Eastern Gateway Community College. As the educational landscape shifts, this is a “must-attend” for those invested in the future of local students and the campus.

And it wouldn’t be a Kiwanis season without a little friendly competition in the works.

The club’s 14th-annual Team Trivia Competition has been scheduled for 6 p.m. March 14 in the Steubenville High School commons area.

Whether you are a history buff, a pop-culture fanatic, or someone who just enjoys an entertaining evening of community camaraderie, this event is not to be missed, Timmons explained.

This will be an opportunity to form a team and compete against others to see who possesses more knowledge from an array of subjects … and all while supporting the club’s various youth-centric initiatives.

The Kiwanis Club continues to prove that when a group of dedicated individuals comes together, the entire community ends up winning. Whether it’s through a night of dancing, a morning of learning, or a night of trivia, those involved in the club are continuing to make sure that Steubenville remains strong going into the new year.
