WINTERSVILLE — Indian Creek High School is preparing for its Spring into Opportunity Learning Fair and reaching out to local businesses and organizations to join.
The free event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 24 at the high school.
Booths will feature representatives from colleges, universities, businesses, trade unions and more.
Food and entertainment will be available.
Dave Moffat, career-tech education head, said the call was being put out to get everyone involved.
“We’re reaching out to businesses and organizations who want to participate,” Moffat said. “We’re using it a little as a job fair, but it’s a community event for all ages.”
The learning fair has been ongoing for years, beginning with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America career fairs. It has evolved to incorporate more events, officials said.
The goal is to highlight local employment opportunities, higher education, armed forces, trades, safety forces, health agencies and other resources. The fair has drawn more than a dozen groups, as well as more than 1,000 participants.
“We’re also looking to have a learning space in classrooms for panel discussions on different career fields,” Moffat added, saying speakers can be live or online. “There will be activities throughout the building.”
Meanwhile, students in the school’s CTE programs will showcase their skills with displays and presentations, such as the natural resources class with its successful Hellbender program.
A district art show will feature original works by youth from elementary to high school.
The event will include a glimpse of theater students’ talents with a potential peek of their spring production of “Mamma Mia!” plus the vocal stylings of the elementary and high school choirs.
Moffat said parent-teacher conferences will be held that day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., allowing attendees to take part in the festivities as well.
District Public Relations Specialist Amy Colantoni said the ultimate mission is to bring the community together.
“The Spring into Opportunity Learning Fair is about more than information — it’s about connection,” said Colantoni.
“When students have the opportunity to meet colleges, employers and community partners face-to-face, real relationships begin to form,” she continued. “Those relationships help students see what’s possible and take confident steps toward their future. At Indian Creek, we believe connections matter, relationships matter and futures matter.”
Any business, educational institution or organization interested in participating can contact Colantoni at the high school at (740) 264-1163, by cell phone at (740) 317-7431 or through e-mail at amy.colantoni@iclsd.org.
