STEUBENVILLE — Junior Payano is on a mission to weave a vibrant tapestry of culture through the streets of Steubenville.
Why?
Because the city resident believes in supporting a cause which hits close to home for many.
For the second consecutive year, Payano is organizing the Cultural Fiesta, an event designed to bring various communities together for an evening that is centered on food, dance and genuine connection.
The fiesta is scheduled to take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Feb. 28 on the third-floor ballroom of Leonardo’s Coffeehouse, located at 159 N. Fourth St.

The room will be transformed into a global celebration, as this isn’t just a party — it is a fundraiser Payano hopes will raise funds for the nonprofit organization Homeward Bound of Steubenville.
The local agency does the work of helping the homeless reintegrate back into homes and society, providing a foundation for those looking to receive a fresh start.
The night promises an immersion into global heritage, offering a blend of culture, cuisine and folk performances.
For anyone who has ever wanted to find their rhythm, the evening will kick off with Salsa dance lessons from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Following the salsa lessons, a professional disc jockey will take over the event, keeping the energy high and the dance floor moving with a mix of Swing, Salsa and Bachata.
An international buffet-style feast will be available for an additional $10, offering a taste of flavors from around the world.
Throughout the evening, guests will be treated to traditional folk dance performances that showcase the beauty of different heritages.
Families are encouraged to bring their children, as the evening will include several activities to keep them entertained.
From the excitement of a piñata to the artistry of Mexican hair braiding and international flag face painting, there will be something for every age to enjoy.
To capture the memories of the occasion, a Caribbean-themed photo station will be set up for professional photoshoots.
The festival will feature a Chinese auction and various prizes, according to Payano.
Admission for the evening is $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 10, with the international buffet being an additional $10 charge.
In the spirit of the event, guests are encouraged to wear their traditional cultural attire to represent their roots, though comfortable casual wear is welcome.
For those who feel inspired to take a more active approach, officials are looking for performers and cultural ambassadors who would like to represent their heritage or perform a traditional folk dance during the fiesta.
This will be an opportunity to share your story and skills with other communities, Payano said.
Anyone interested in participating or for information can call (201) 745-9562.
