STEUBENVILLE — The Sycamore Youth Center welcomed Ohio Valley residents for an evening of traditional music as Faire May performed on Friday.

The event featured a blend of well-known Christmas favorites and lesser-known traditional European carols, many which were sung in their original languages.

Audience members enjoyed a wide range of instruments throughout the performance, including the fiddle, banjo, guitar, bodhran, flute and bagpipes.

Faire May is a Wheeling-based folk music group comprised of Zac Gordon, Jariel Henthorn and Jacob Coughlan. The trio specializes in traditional folk music from Ireland, Scotland and the Americas, with a focus on preserving historic musical traditions through live performance.

Gordon and Henthorn serve as service choir directors and folk dance instructors at the Sycamore Youth Center. The duo returned to the center to share their musical talents with the broader community during Friday’s concert.

“Sycamore was thrilled to host Faire May and open our doors to the community for this special evening,” stated Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of the Sycamore center. “Their dedication to preserving traditional music aligns beautifully with our mission to promote culture and the arts through meaningful experiences.”

Organizers said Faire May and Sycamore value the role of music and performance in preserving cultural heritage and in bringing people together across generations. Additional information about Faire May is available online at FaireMayMusic.com.
