Sewing group looking for leader

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Senior Center is looking to begin a memory bear sewing group, and is seeking a group leader.

The leader should be someone who preferably sews, and would be required to coordinate work days, supplies and pickup, officials noted.

The bears will be given to hospice patients once completed.

Anyone interested in filling this position is asked to call (304) 564-3801.

Training day challenge set

PITTSBURGH — As Pittsburgh prepares for the NFL draft in April, the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum at the Sen. John Heinz History Center will host its annual NFL PLAY 60 Training Day to challenge kids to get up and get active.

Presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods, the training day will kick off at 10 a.m. Jan. 31, one week before pro football’s biggest game.

Children of all ages can score big throughout five floors of activities offered at the center.

Discover the region’s sports history while completing a list of physical challenges throughout the sports museum, unleash creativity in a touchdown celebration contest and step off the sidelines and compete for prizes and giveaways throughout the day.

The NFL PLAY 60 Training Day will include activities from local community organizations such as Special Olympics Pennsylvania, P3R’s Kids of STEEL, Pittsburgh Flag Football League and WPIAL.

The event is held in partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL PLAY 60 — the National Football League’s health and fitness campaign to encourage young fans to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.

Children 17 years of age and younger will receive free admission at the history center through the Kamin “Free for Kids” initiative.

Parents and caregivers are invited to be spectators and cheer on their players during the program, remaining on site while players participate.

Regular admission applies for adult visitors.
