Toronto Seniors celebrate
TORONTO — Members of the Toronto Senior Citizens Club met on Thursday for the club’s annual Christmas dinner and celebration.
Chaplain Arlene Obertance-Rice opened the evening with a special blessing.
Dinner was served to the 69 guests in attendance. The meal consisted of ham, stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls and desserts, including chocolate and carrot cakes.
Following dinner, those attending participated in the singing of Christmas carols. The vocals were accompanied by violinist Sydney Frampton.
Club President John Livingstone opened the meeting by leading in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, after which the business portion of the meeting was waived to allow time for the annual holiday activities.
Those who served on the kitchen committee were thanked and those celebrating a December birthday were recognized.
The annual holiday cookie drive was held, with 50 dozen cookies collected toward the event.
The baked goods were delivered to officials with the Toronto Police Department, the Toronto Fire Department and EMS workers.
The 50/50 drawing was won by Andy Snyder. The winner of the basket drawing was Bonita Emory.
Throughout the evening, 40 door prizes were awarded, including 15 poinsettias.
The next meeting of the Toronto Seniors will be at 4 p.m. March 19 in the Karaffa Recreation Center commons area, located at 1307 Dennis Way.
The group welcomes anyone 55 years of age or older and who lives in any of the surrounding Ohio communities.
Meetings take place on the third Thursday of the month between March and December.
