STEUBENVILLE — The Sycamore Folk Dancers have delivered vibrant, memorable performances throughout the past few months, having performed at the Sycamore Youth Center, the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wheeling and during the Nutcracker Village’s opening night ceremony along Fourth Street in the Gluhwein Gardens.
Performers have captivated audiences through traditional music and dance from Germany, Bavaria and Austria. One of the highlights performed by members is the spirited Flying Dance, where young men lift and spin girls in a circle, creating a helicopter-like motion that draws cheers and applause from spectators.
Dancers wear traditional attire, including the red shoes worn specifically for this folk tradition.
The ensemble of young men and women showcase their skills, cultural pride and joyful energy throughout each performance. Their dedication to preserving and sharing European folk traditions shine in each step, with audiences continually responding with enthusiastic support.
“It is a beautiful celebration of culture and youth talent,” organizers share. “These young dancers work hard to bring this tradition to life, and the joy they shared with the community is truly special.”
The Nutcracker Village will continue through Jan. 9 for those interested in seeing the largest display of nutcrackers in the world until next year.
