STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Fort Steuben Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored Weirton resident Bob Kelly as their veteran of the month during their Nov. 8 meeting at the First Christian Church in Weirton.
Regent Janet Rymer called the meeting to order. Flag Chairman Karen Blanc gave the invocation and blessing. The pledge and American’s Creed was led by First Vice Regent Roberta Fedoush. Tammy Kotyk led in singing the national anthem. Fedoush provided the piano accompaniment.
Secretary Vickie Joseph conducted a good citizen recognition presentation, after which lunch was served, followed by a program. Rymer gave a pictoral report of previous meetings, highlighting members’ accomplishments and presentations. She presented certificates of appreciation to chapter members Jeanne Vega and Francine Hauldren for their hard work and dedication arranging the planting of the patriot tree. Vega initiated the project, which was brought to completion by Hauldren.
Rymer gave the registrar’s report, stating three prospectives are working on their documentation, two of which were introduced, including Elaine Starkey Snider and Stacy Porter.
Joseph read a summary of the minutes, which had been e-mailed to members. Treasurer Patti D’Aurora gave the treasurer’s report. Under committee reports, Susan Brown agreed to be chairman of the new Celebrate Daughters Committee. DAR Project Patriot Chairman Balakos showed members more than 500 cards, letters and drawings from Steubenville City Schools’ elementary pupils and middle school students written to active-duty service members.
