Brilliant Lions Club celebrates, reflects on year
BRILLIANT — Members of the Brilliant Lions Club gathered to celebrate the Christmas holiday with one another.
A special dinner was held for the club, along with the exchanging of gifts.
President Butch Ford conducted the exchange, with officials noting that everyone in attendance appeared to be pleased with the present they received.
A holiday 50/50 drawing was held, with Jim Holskey being named the winner. Holskey chose to donate his winnings back to the club.
Two of the club’s members were named Lion of the Year.
John Goosman and Susan Nolan will share the distinction, according to Ford. Each was congratulated on winning the award and for their contributions made throughout the year.
The club reflected on many of its past activities during 2025, and discussed the many contributions made to the community.
Among the remembrances were having a float in the Brilliant Christmas parade, along with a float in the Memorial Day parade.
Lions members assisted in the delivery of food baskets to those in need and chose to sponsor two young children whose names were placed on a Christmas tree in the hopes of receiving presents this year.
Members donated $225 toward a local food drive and made a contribution of $60 to the Arbor Day Foundation. Officials noted because of the contribution, 100 trees will be planted.
Members Lamont and Esther McCoy attended the Lions district convention and delivered 137 pairs of eyeglasses to officials for distribution to those in need.
During the holiday dinner, members reflected on the club awarding $750 college scholarships to high school graduates Emma McHugh, Gavin Edgell and Aidin Hosenfeld.
In addition, members discussed having supported pediatric cancer research by donating to the Wooster Lions Club and conducting two area blood drives this year.
Officials say they are planning many new activities in the coming year in order to help residents throughout the community.
Ford noted the club’s next meeting date will be announced at a later time.
