Helping neighbors

Those who help to feed the hungry are receiving help themselves as more and more applicants are in need of food assistance due to the government shutdown. Weirton’s Community Bread Basket received a donation from J & R Deer Shop in Follansbee to help fill some of that need, according to officials. Jeanie Montgomery, program administrator for the nonprofit, thanked the local hunter, who has supported the organization for years. “So many people enter our food distribution center and ask if there is venison available,” Montgomery stated. She can now reply, “yes.” Anyone interested in donating a deer to the CBB, can do so by taking the deer to J & R Deer Shop, located at 2741 Eldersville Road in Follansbee, or call the shop at (304) 914-2281 or the CBB at (304) 748-7595. Owner Mark Fitzpatrick Jr. stated anyone is welcome to visit the shop, see the operation and, if possible, bring in a deer. Taking part in the donation were, from left, front, Jaxon Fitzpatrick and Rhett Fitzpatrick; and back, Rodney McClain, Fitzpatrick Jr., Mark Lish and Mark Fitzpatrick Sr.
