Harding students honor veterans

Harding Middle School students involved in the Leo Club hosted the school’s sixth-annual veterans breakfast, which honors local veterans on Veterans Day. A program held during the meal included the Jazz Choir singing the national anthem and a rendition of taps offered by Rick Hicks. Members of each military branch were represented and invited to stand during the playing of their respective service anthems. A solemn table known as America’s White Table, was recognized by those in attendance. The table is set within military dining halls and at official functions which honor prisoners of war and those missing in action. Students in the Leo Club were assigned to a veteran, acting as their guide and server throughout the morning. Veterans participating in the breakfast included, alongside their student representative, from left, Jeffrey L. Hawkins, Navy veteran, 1969-71; Ron Hastwell, Air Force veteran, 1966-70; and Barry Bardone, Air Force veteran, 1965-69.
