Edison to perform ‘Addams Family’

RICHMOND — “They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky. They’re all together ooky.” And they will be at Edison High School for a musical performance of “The Addams Family.”

A new take on the classic television show will be performed by students of the school’s vocal department.

Shows are set to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the school’s auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Children ages 3 and under will be admitted free of charge. The cast will features 85 students in grades seven through 12, according to Nick Hughes, vocal department director.

The performance will bring back a blast from the past through memories of the popular and fun series.

Join Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch and more in a production referred to as “a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family.”

The original story follows every father’s nightmare: A now-grown Wednesday Addams, who is considered the ultimate princess of darkness, falls in love with a sweet young man from a respectable family. She confides in her father and begs him not to inform her mother, forcing Gomez to keep the secret from his beloved Morticia. But everything changes when they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

“Audiences can expect to have a ‘ghoulishly’ fun night filled with laughter and great memories,” Hughes said. “We will have basket drawings, a 50/50 drawing, snack items for sale, Wildcat gear and T-shirts from past productions for sale. We will have items for ‘good luck bags’ for the cast and crew that will be for sale, as well.”

Leading the cast are Nevaeh Hunter as Gomez, Leila Cable as Morticia, Michelle Davis as Wednesday, Lanie Kruel as Pugsley, Nikolas Kline as Uncle Fester, Bella Evans as Grandma, Lauren Watters as Lurch, Maddie Granatir as Mal Beineke, Kloe Riley as Alice Beineke, Felicity Hilton as Lucas Beineke and Huntley Board as Little Wednesday.

The Addams’ ancestors will be portrayed by Madilyn Householder, Gwendolyn Stine, Luci Kruel, Halee Fish, Gracie McPeek, Ellie Richards, Kallie Granatir, Ava-Marie Harris, Cadence Bendle, Mark Higginbotham and Cecilia Stacey.

Military displays at library

WEIRTON — The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center is inviting the public to visit and view the many displays which honor military men and women. The museum, located at 3149 Main St., is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Church to hold blood drive

TORONTO — Crossroads North River Church, located at 207 N. River Ave. in Toronto, will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 26 in the church sanctuary.

Lions ready for tailgate party

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Lions Club will hold its 30th-annual tailgate party for the Ohio State-Michigan game on Nov. 29 at Froehlich’s Classic Corner, located at 501 Washington St.

Only 150 tickets have been printed.

The cost will be an $80 donation to Lions charities. Tickets include viewing the college football rivalry on a large screen TV, dinner for two and drawing for cash prizes. The winner need not be present.

The reverse drawing will include the following prizes: The first number drawn, $100; every 25th number drawn, $50; fourth number from last drawn, $50; third number from last drawn, $100; second number from last drawn, $150; next to last number drawn, $200; and last number drawn, $2,500.

Mah jongg offered at library

WELLSBURG — Join the Brooke County Public Library for Mah Jongg Fridays.

Those who love playing the game of tiles or who are looking for a group to play with can stop by the library every Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Those having their own tiles are welcome to bring them for play. Anyone who would like to learn how to play the fame can contact the library and officials will make sure someone will be on hand to assist.

No registration is required.

The library will be closed on Nov. 28, with play to resume Dec. 5.

Ballet to perform ‘The Nutcracker’

STEUBENVILLE — The Canton Ballet is celebrating its 60th season by taking a performance of “The Nutcracker” on the road. One of those stops will include downtown Steubenville.

Presented by the Steubenville Cultural Trust, the Canton Ballet will perform excerpts from “The Nutcracker” at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Steubenville Masonic Theater, located at 227 N. Fourth St.

Tickets are $20 for general admission or $35 for premium seating for the 4 p.m. event.
