Christian school honors veterans today

WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Christian School will hold its annual Veterans Day program at 8 a.m. today at the school, officials announced on Wednesday.

Due to the school not being open on Tuesday, chapel will be held today, they noted.

Students in grades kindergarten through 12th will participate in the event, which features special music and guest speaker Scott Adams, who has served on the school board. Veterans who are parents or grandparents of students have been invited to attend.

Buckeye to hold Veterans Day events

DILLONVALE — Several Veterans Day activities have been planned in the Buckeye Local School District in the coming week. Buckeye North and South elementary schools will hold events on Friday, inviting local veterans to participate.

Buckeye North, located in Brilliant, will treat its special guests to coffee and doughnuts prior to a special service beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the school auditorium. Buckeye South, located in Tiltonsville, will hold a luncheon for veterans at 1:30 p.m., followed by a presentation at 2 p.m.

Buckeye West, located in Adena, will put on a program at 1:30 p.m. Monday. All of the activities will feature music and talks about the brave men and women who have defended the United States against its enemies.

Buckeye Local Junior/Senior High School, located in Connorville, will honor local veterans with a breakfast and subsequent assembly on Tuesday. Its student council is spearheading the project, which includes breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and a presentation at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium.

Area veterans’ groups, including the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be on hand, with speakers to be included in the festivities.

“We’ll recognize all branches of the military,” stated Bailey McBeth, who shares student council co-advising duties with Sondra Lachendro. “We’ll have a table to remember the POWs and MIAs and will recognize Boys and Girls State participants from 2025.”

He added the American Legion Americanism essay contest winners will share their essays on what freedom means to them during the program.

Church to sell crafts, food

FOLLANSBEE — Follansbee United Methodist Church, located at 1002 Virginia Ave., will sell Christmas crafts, soup and baked goods from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the church.

Visitors are welcome to carry out their orders or dine inside while browsing a variety of holiday decorations and additional items for sale.

Free food for military personnel

STEUBENVILLE — McDonald’s restaurants announced the company is honored to serve veterans, active-duty military members and their families every day.

This year, the restaurant will recognize Veterans Day in a special way, offering current and former military members free food.

Participating McDonald’s will offer one meal to all veterans who have a valid military ID, all day Tuesday.

During breakfast, veterans can receive a free Egg McMuffin meal, including a hash brown and any size soft drink, tea or coffee.

For lunch or dinner, veterans can receive a free three-piece McCrispy Strips Meal, along with a medium fry and any size soft drink, tea or coffee.

These deals are available through either dine-in or the drive-thru.

Deals are not available using the McDonald’s app. Breakfast meals will be available until 10:30 a.m.

Society holds meeting

STEUBENVILLE — The St. John Evangelist Altar and Rosary Society held its monthly meeting Tuesday inside the church hall.

A baby shower was held for those who use the services of the AIM Women’s Center in Steubenville.

Rebekah Cohen Morris, executive director of AIM, addressed those in attendance.

A monetary donation was made to the nonprofit by the ladies in the society, with several baby items donated by members of the church. The donations were presented to Morris for the new mothers and their babies.

Members voted on whether or not to change the days on which meetings are held, changing it to 4:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month.

It was announced the church will hold a soup and sandwich sale on Wednesday.

The society noted Trisha Vaders spearheaded a coat drive, with the coats to be distributed at the St. John Food Pantry this month. Cookie trays will be available for purchase in December.

Pam Boyd and Monica Biery provided desserts and fruit for the meeting.

Members thanked everyone who contributed coats and baby supplies, along with individuals who support the church’s soup sales.

Church to hold soup and sandwich sale

WELLSBURG — St. John the Evangelist Parish in Wellsburg will hold a soup and sandwich sale at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, located at 1300 Charles St.

A variety of soups will be available, including bean, vegetable beef and chicken.

Sandwiches will include barbecued ham, egg salad and Italian hoagies.

The event will run until all of the food has been sold, according to organizers. Dine-in or carry out will be offered. To place an order, call (304) 737-8051.

The parish will have cookie trays containing approximately four dozen homemade cookies available on Dec. 10 at the cost of $35.

Soup and sandwiches will be available on that day during lunch hours.
